So we have an issue with dads build,
    MSI B450 Tomahawk
    R5 5600X
    Samsung 970 boot drive
    RX580 GPU.
All fans power on normally when the power button is pushed, no video output, red diagnostic light on MoBo comes on for CPU.

Far I’ve tried swapping boot drives, swapping GPU’s, and installing an R5 3600 as well, as well as clearing CMOS.
Where should I go from here?

Edit: and we’re running a cooler master 212 cooler, it seems like the cooler is pretty tight on the CPU, is it possible it’s putting too much pressure on the socket?

Yes totally possible the cooler is too tight, that can also cause a ram error. Back each screw off a bit, even though they have slots or a philips heads on the mounting screws they are thumb screws, the tooling is for removal after sitting in place a while when they may become stuck but they only need to be finger tight when mounting, and even more important tension needs to be even. (maybe plus a 1/4-1/2 turn if you're paranoid)

Look at spring tension mounts like intel stock coolers and such, they barely have any clamping force you can pull the cooler away from the cpu with small force by further compressing the springs, again the cooler brackets and mother board shouldn't be visibly bent. If they are it's too tight.

I had this issue on one of my first builds and tried to find an in-lb spec for the thumb screws and realistically there just isn't one because it would be in sub in-lb.

Heat killer Tube 200 with D5 Next pump, still waiting on EK front and back blocks for the GPU and need to get some radiators tubes fittings and CPU block then I can start planning a loop.

Might be worth checking mobo bios version. I know some earlier b450's had issues with r5 and up without an updated bios flash.

Released cooler tension and cleared CMOS, no change, I’ll try dropping the 3600 back into it just in case it was a combination of BIOS and cooler tension.
I’ve also tried a single stick of ram and no joy.

I might look into wether or not my B450 steel legend will support the R5 5600X and if so pop it in my rig to make sure it’s not a DOA chip.

Replaced the MoBo and we’re off to the races.
Updating windows and drivers and he’ll be flying by this evening.
I’m impressed with how quiet it is at idle, much quieter than my system.

Flew around some local islands last night with dad in multiplayer mode, is there a good system to use so we can talk via headset over the network?
I have a feeling we’re gonna start doing little backcountry STOL trips.

You mean something like Discord? Create a "server" for just you and your dad and can use a voice chat in that.

If you mean via in game I have no clue

just purchased the Ryzen 5 5600G. Working on building my first PC (DIY). Im foregoing the GPU currently until prices come down. Figured the 5600G will get me through as I'm not a huge gamer (last PC game I played was Diablo 2, the original one. . . ). Tried to play Last Epoch on my current computer (all in one from 2013) and needless to say, its time for an upgrade.

Anyone else have experience with the 5k G series yet? I know they have been in some OEM comps for a few months now.

They arent bad CPU's. Not quite as powerful as the 5600x, but still an upgrade over a 3600 and (sometimes) even the 3700. The IGPU isnt anything special but for 1080p gaming on medium settings it works just fine. Be a fine hold over till you can get a reasonably priced GPU and still be a good cpu even using it just as a cpu and not with the on board graphics.

That's the plan. After doing probably an unhealthy amount of research (as I had a lot to learn), it looked like the Ryzen Zen 3 architecture worked very well with DDR4 3200MHz CL14 memory. I'll be doing 2x8 for that. Looking at the Asus TUF mobo, B550M-Plus (wifi) Micro ATX

probably not (after I beat a game I never really go back and play it again). I quite playing last epoch currently bc the comp just cant handle it and I'm tired of unusable graphics and clicking the mouse and waiting 1-2 seconds for things to happen.

I was looking at New World potentially but really wanting to play Diablo 4 when (if) it comes out.
