Any reason to go nvidia over amd for gpu market? Seems like price to performance is AMD by a long shot

I'm pretty set on a 3070 for a budget build after going back and forth between it and a 6700XT.

By the way, I went with a 12400F after your comment about the 12100F being a budget CPU, but still bested by a 3900X.

It's a long way off. I'd guess 2030ish or more. Most PC's still only get 32 GB at most even with DDR5.

As for the server market, that's just a different world. I mean they're building racks now with well over 10,000 TB (10 PB) of storage but we still don't see readily available NVMe drives over 8 TB in the Prosumer market even though 20-30 TB server drives are commonly deployed. Bottom line there isn't a need for super high ram capacity at home or office level use yet.

I’m trying to decide on a 6800xt or the 3070 is about $60 cheaper, but gets smoked in benchmarks. 3080 too high for me around $800

How do I vote in this survey?!

I notice YouTube doesn't even say "feedback shared with content creator" when I dislike something any more.

I'm about as new as they come to building PC's, but I recently just built with a 6700XT. For the price to performance, I can't complain. I don't do a crazy amount of gaming, and am coming from playing everything on console at 60fps, so seeing anywhere from 112-160fps at any given time in 1440 playing OW, Infinite, WoW, Sea of Thieves, etc, I'm happy with it!

My concern is the lack of tech in the AMD; I'm running a GTX1080 TI (got 2 of them) and I'm playing everything at 2k resolution already on ultra settings. My CPU is the bottleneck at the moment but I still want to upgrade.

Maybe so, I can't really speak for any tech specs or future speculation of the brands; I know I could've spent years researching both and never scratched the surface. Eventually I realized I was overthinking nearly every aspect of my build and just landed on what I felt was the best bang for buck (at the time at least, its always changing). For a true amateur like myself, who just wants to play a few games, and comes from 60fps @ 1080p, the 6700XT exceeds my expectations. My buddy has a build using a 3060ti and we see roughly about the same performance, give or take depending on the game, so as of now, I'm happy with it!

This is why I have 64GB for my home PC. Also because I played horrible games with massive memory leaks back in the day.

As long as your happy with the frame rate for the games you play no reason to upgrade. But as someone who upgrades just because, I'm always for buying new tech and would definitely say to upgrade that CPU. I upgrade my monitor first and then justify upgrading other components to be able to get everything out of it. I remind myself that I only surf the web and play solitaire on it after everything is installed.

Biggest reason being that the multiple bench tests I've run show my cpu being my bottle neck. Whole system is old as I'm running a 6700k at 4.5ghz on a closed loop cooler. It's good now but it'll start running slower in the near future.

The new 12400F (and whatever mobo I choose) would give me the headroom for a new gpu; monitor is almost 2 years old (HP Omen).

Yeah, that 6700k is pretty dated and could use an upgrade. The GPU market is still up in the air, but better than what it was. At the height of it all I bought an extremely overpriced 3070 from Ebay just because and then got in on a Newegg Shuffle for an overpriced 3080 Ti. I think I'm going to skip the 4xxx series unless I talk myself into getting the Samsung 55" Ark.

I don't follow the tech world as closely as I once did, but I've been meaning to catch up over on [H] to see how the real world performance is on these newer cards with ultrawide monitors.

It's still directly correlated to the amount of pixels drawn. When people say things like 1440P or 2K, they mean 16:9 aspect ratio. When you're driving a 21:9 panel of the same resolution, which is a common wide aspect ratio, you end up with about 25% more pixels to drive. An easy way to do the math is to know that 4K bench results are for 16:9 as well. So throw a dart about 25% of the way between 2K and 4K benches and you'll hit your ultrawide number pretty close.

Super ultrawide are where it gets weird. They're basically two full 16:9 panels glued together. So 2K on a super ultrawide is almost the same as gaming at 4K (it doesn't work out exactly, but close).

Bottom line, count the pixels and you can ballpark any monitor by using existing benchmarks for 16:9 aspect ratios.
