Well that's frustrating eh? 2 cards shouldn't be worse than one... Yeah, depending on how much you'd like for it, my dad needs a new card for his computer.

I have the 2X770's on here for sale pretty cheap for SLI. Lemme look and see what to ask for the 1080.

Depending on what his needs are one or both of the 770's would prob work. Both are still good cards.

He's running a 970 right now but he'd like to push more frames to take advantage of his 120hz monitor.

Any of you guys know about business software? We’re looking for software that allows us to store customers, work dates. Contact info, and maybe a general “notes” section, I’d prefer something I can use on a home server.

This is my setup at the moment:
    51163582_348303579111626_248958276240356_a01e9b927c8a3754a65bce83219f7aa3006201dd.jpg
I'm going to be building a new PC hopefully next black friday now that ram prices have finally dropped. What I have right now is an HP Pavilion p6240f with some new hardware. It's about 10 years old at this point, but it got me though high school and runs most of my games surprisingly well. The new hardware I installed was a 2 TB WD Black hard drive and a GTX1060 because it was on sale, but this computer cant use the thing to its full potential of course. I had a square monitor from 2002 before I got the new graphics card, haha. My next build isn't going to be anything super amazing, but it'll definitely do what I need it to. Plans are as follows:

Case: Something large but not super bulky with room for some Noctua fans. Looking at a ThermalTake most likely.

    Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-H270-HD3P Lga1151 Intel H270 2-Way Crossfire Hdmi Dvi-D Usb3.1 Type-C M.2 ATX Ddr4 Motherboard

    CPU: Intel Core i7-7700K

Memory: Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2)

    Power Supply: EVGA Supernova 650 G2, 80+ Gold 650W

Video Card: (carry-over) Zotac GTX 1060

    Storage: (carry-over) WD Black 2TB
Storage: Some sort of SSD, haven't decided on one yet.

It'll be more of a budget build; I don't have the time to game like I used to. My new tower will also be relocated to the top of my desk for better ventilation :D

    Yeah.
That type of software is known as CRM, or Customer Relationship Management. Lots of big ERP suites have a CRM module, and most are web-based, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), nothing to install -- Salesforce.com is the most well-known one. There is an open source one called SugarCRM you might want to check into.

BF V doesn't support SLI. There is no SLI profile for BF V so when you play the game only one card is used by the nVidia driver and game. So if @Matic using an Intel board, and I think he is, the FPS difference is from his PCI-E slot going from 8x to 16x. Most Intel boards apart from the HEDT stuff don't have enough lanes to supply 2 slots with full 16x PCI-E 3.0 speeds. So when you load two cards onto those board and only one is doing anything, it suffers from a performance penalty due to restricted bandwidth. Personally I wouldn't run SLI unless I knew I could run both cards at full bandwidth.

whats the actual point of sli other than pulling big dick numbers in benchmarks, I never found sli to be that much better for gaming.

It's great for games that are sli ready. Fps boosts with higher end graphics. The 2nd card picks up when the 1st card maxes out.
It's not like and even number of resources go to each card.

I wouldn't necessarily say SLI was a fad. We've just reached the technology with faster graphics bus speeds that it's surpassed SLI.

Also, as mentioned above, you lose half your bus Speed in the pic slot when running sli.
    16x to 8x.

Quad sli might still be a thing.

I use it basically for 1 game, my racing sim.
On a 65in 4k tv, the fps is literally almost double compared to a single 1080.

Also, with a single card in 4k, it's hard to add ultra settings such as aa without massive frame drops.

So the short version of the history of SLI is actually really interesting. So nVidia didn’t even invent the concept, it was 3dfx before nVidia bought them. Basically 3dfx was one of the original 3D graphics companies back when people would run a 2D graphics card and a 3D card in the same system. 3dfx owned the market for a couple of years because they came up with an API, like DirectX, of their own that actually worked better than the early versions of DirectX and OpenGL. Companies would literally design their games for 3dfx cards. The problem 3dfx had was that their management was terrible. They started to fall behind in developing new GPUs which started to hurt their market share. They also tried making their own cards instead of having 3rd parties do that which really doomed them. Anyways, as sort of a last gasp 3dfx invented an extremely good first version of SLI designed specifically for their API that could play Quake, the biggest game at the time, at over double the frame rate of any other card. It was literally the only option when Quake came out to play at resolutions higher than 800x600.

When nVidia bought 3dfx as they were failing, they inherited SLI, and they implemented it to battle ATi anytime ATi took the raw lead in performance. Since then SLI has kind of taken a back seat to single card implementations for a couple of reasons. One is because the APIs don’t often work as well with two cards as one. DirectX12 actually remedies this but adoption of DirectX12 has been very slow. Two is because the higher prices of SLI capable cards leads to a very small SLI market which doesn’t drive game companies to optimize their games for SLI. Third is because the data exchange rate between the cards at high resolutions requires expensive connections between each card that often can’t handle the bandwidth of 1440p and 4K, though NVLink has fixed this to some degree.

Anyways, as for your original question, SLI makes sense for different people for different reasons. For me, I do a lot of GPGPU work with CUDA. CUDA sees almost a perfect doubling of processing power when a second card is added to the system. For others gaming at 4K SLI might be the only way to push high frame rates for 144hz 4K monitors that are now available.

nVidia has also promised to push SLI more with their partners now that the 20 series has a SLI link that can actually handle higher bandwidth. There are some games that SLI sees a 40-60% frame rate push, like Shadows of the Tomb Raider, that are worth it when you have a monitor that is 144hz or higher and 1440p or higher. My hope is that as RTRT and DLSS come online SLI optimization will grow with DirectX12 growth, and maybe then we can start seeing the benefits early SLI adopters in the past saw more often in games.

You don’t lose half you bus speed if you run a board that can handle two 16x slots at their full rated speed. All AMD threadipper boards can which is why that chip has become a go to, with high speed DDR4, for SLI systems.

Also Ryzen 3000 will implement PCI-E 4.0 which will also solve the bandwidth issue. Intel has not yet announced PCI-E 4.0 in their plans which is concerning.

Quad SLI is dead. nVidia officially killed it with the 20 series.

Some of my 1st cards were 3dfx.
The banshee was one of them.
The other was the voodoo2, for which sli was born.

As someone who has a 165hz g-sync panel, I can tell you that there is a competitive edge when you can push over 100 FPS to an adaptive sync panel. Even on something like Rocket League lol. Check out YouTube if you want to see some comparisons with various gamers. It’s one of the few things you can buy that will actually help you be a bit better gamer. I’m terrible so I like having every advantage to be just a little less terrible.
