Okay, so I’m CPU bound a little bit, I may look into updating the CPU to utilize more of the GPU.

Yeah, running MSFS on a triple screen setup was pretty difficult, I can only imagine what the VR does to it.
Hopefully once a few more generations of hardware come out high quality VR flight will become obtainable to us semi-serious hobbyists.

So, I've got an old Oculus Rift that I had since it came out.

It's in the closet since I haven't used it since the days of Dreadhalls and whatnot.

MS Flight Simulator is pretty intensive to run on its own, but wouldn't it be the same (if not easier) to run on Oculus since most monitors provide better resolution? What Oculus Rift do you run?

I'm asking cause I genuinely don't know, but would expect Oculus to run slightly better.

The 3600 is really holding you back. 5800x3d is a massive improvement.

    3600 is a great chip. There's a bottleneck somewhere. I'll try to help :)

    It’s the original rift
1080x1200 per eye, up to 90hz, I think what gets the VR is it has to render everything because you look around so much. I know that Vr eats VRAM, so I would expect that it’s because of having to render so much of the world.

I’m not 100% sure what makes VR so difficult I just know people don’t get the performance that they’re looking for unless they have good rigs.

I’ll have to check into it, I almost went with a Ryzen 7 chip back when I built it but decided not too.

It’s worked well for the past few years, but nothing I play taxes the system like MSFS, and it’s really the only thing that I care about max performance in. I’m not adverse to updating the chip if it’s only a few hundred bucks.

The new AMD chips are very good. They run kind of hot, although. You'll have to get a new mainboard. I recommend MSI or Gigabyte paired with a Noctua CPU cooler.
Get into the BIOS for maximum performance. ;)

Yeah I’ve had the 3600 for 3 years and while it’s still a great chip, the 5800x3d boosts 1% lows and even fps average especially in cpu intensive games. It’s so nice how smooth the gameplay is now. I’d recommend that since you’re already on AM4 and it’s a simple drop in

Latest build at my buddy's shop.

    Didn't get all the specs but...Z690 board, 13th gen Intel...13600K I think, RTX 3070TI, 32gb of DDR5 and I forget what else.

One of their first builds using this case.

    20221227_162718.jpg

Their custom water cooled setups are freaking amazing; they didn't have one being built for me to snap a pic of unfortunately.

Stopped by to drop off the work bench I made for him.

I'm surprised it's their first build in that case. It's the case are the newbies want right now, like the 011D was for a while.

They typically do higher end builds, but...whatever the customer wants right?

They wanted to do a custom loop water cooler system but customer opted not to.

It's not an insult. There's always a new case design that's popular. GN really talked the case up too in their year end coverage which is what a lot of people just quickly scanning YouTube for what they should have built for them will see. It's a great water cooled case but I'm not as hot and horny for it as Tech Jesus is.

I’m surprised a water cooled case got so much love from them considering the love for air cooled/mesh front cases.

It's a decent air cooling case too and it's easy to cable manage. That's why they love it. Steve loved the 011D and it's variants as well. I mean, Lian Li basically made the airflow version just because GN said they should.

I only have 2 builds under my belt, and definitely not very experienced in the techy-world, but I've gotta say the quality between my Phanteks Evolv X case and my wife's Montech Air 100 is surprisingly not as different as I thought it may would be, being $200 vs $60. If anyone ever has any questions about either case, I'll happily give some personalized experience with both. I think both are worth every penny, and I really only have 1-2 gripes about each case; Phanteks, costs alot; Montech, punch out GPU slots and giant logo.

Saw that one at my buddy's shop too; said they use real wood in the front.

We were cracking jokes about how "some dude named Eduardo from Brazil whittled the wood from a 128 year old tree" for the slats on the front of the case

Each case comes with a Signature card of the person who carved said wood; marketing at its best huh?

I hoped Eduardo carved it on a CNC... I think these are pretty cool. I've thought about adding some real wood accents to my white case tbh

Should go well next to a Steam Punk inspired PC build
