I'm not gonna lie, I haven't had a "new" computer in over 15 years, and only started trying to jump into PC gaming last year when I decided to build. I didn't know (even a budget) computers were supposed to actually be this fast. Logging into my work computer and waiting for windows to load, programs to open, etc is just pure torture now..

I'm on a Dell machine at work that actually feels slower than our NComputing clients. Doesn't help my interface is Chrome.

I was soooo close to pulling the trigger on a new build just now. Must stay strong....Need to at least wait to see how the new 7900X3D performs. Since my current build is technically still doing the job I should wait as long as possible but it just feels good to have a latest and greatest powerhouse :D

I'm heavily considering a 5800x3d as the end of the road CPU for my B550 AM4 mobo. I'd pass my 5700x down to the wife's machine then we'd both be on the same generation of CPU hardware. If they keep dropping in price and make it south of $300 I may just take the plunge.

Pretty much my build, except for the Corsair water cooler. Had two of their water pumps fail.
Have had a Noctua now for three years now, still keeping it nice & cool :)

I started ordering parts for a gaming PC for my son that should a be pretty capable setup - here is the plan so far...

Mobo: ASUS TUF Gaming Z790-Plus WiFi D4
    CPU: i5-13600k
GPU: ASUS TUF Gaming 4070 Ti OC
RAM: Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro DDR4 32gb
SSD: WD Black SN770 1gb (system) and 2gb (games) NVMe drives
    PSU: Corsair RM850x Shift

Still haven't decided what case to use, I really like the Fractal North but the black version I want is pretty scarce these days.

I need to figure out a good cpu cooler too - high end air cooler or AIO closed loop setup?

Either or. Personally I'd go AIO and get a Thermal Grizzly contact plate. The biggest heat disipation problem with Intel chips is they're not flat in the socket. A contact plate, installed properly, is the only way to go if you want max clocks/boosts.

I didn't even know that was an issue - thanks for the heads up.

It is a bit disgusting that the 4070 Ti is $850 but there aren’t too many alternatives.

Am I a dipshit for contemplating buying one?

No but the fact it has 12GB of memory and leans hard on DLSS 3 would scare me off if I wanted it to last more than one generation. I'd wait for AMD to adjust 7900XT pricing.

I ended up getting a second hand 3080 for now, these prices are stupid. The 4070ti is 1200$ up here in my area.

Honestly, they have settled a bit, and I wonder if AMD can pressure nvidia more to bring prices down over time.
