I have an old AMD Phenom II and a crappy 5830 you are making me want to see if I can get it to run portal at 1080 haha

I had to sell off all my valued computer parts during covid/my seperation and it makes me miss them.

I really wish I kept my AMD 8350 CPU, they over clock like monsters.

    Those FX monsters?!

Dude I had an FX-8150 and that thing was a BEAST and in fact, the 3DMark score is still in my account

Here they are, +10 years apart

I ordered an 8150 and when the reviews came out it was bad, and my preorder was delayed, so I canceled it and got the x6 1100T as interm.

Once the 8350 arrived it was bad too lol, I bought it, tested it, and it was almost worse at gaming compared to the 1100T, so I ran 2 systems back then, I had a loaner system for friends to play haha.

The 8350 aged well with muticore gaming over time, I got a lot of life out of it, but really should have got an i7 3770k

I don't even remember seeing reviews on them, then again I got my FX soon after they released.

The 3770K was a beast during its time too and for kicks, I too decided to run an Intel at the same time and that's when I got the 4670K.

Here's the problem, I had GTX 780TI's when I ran that rig as I wanted something better than the 770 I had with the FX chip. Well, at some point during ownership (3-4 or 5 years in?) my motherboard died and I parted the system out.

Wish I kept the chip but I do have a spare mobo for a 4th Gen, and I recently acquired a 780TI from my neighbor so..........if anyone here has a 4770K or 4790K I'll build another SLI rig :anonymous:

You should do one too if you got any spare parts! I've got some extra DDR3 if ya need as well as DDR4 just laying around.

13600k was the CPU I should have got last year, but the AMD draw to the 5800x3d was too hard to resist.

Thats a potent machine, love the colour.

I have a 43XX something or another I'd throw your way, but I'm guessing a lowly i3 aint gonna cut it ;) I put a 4670K in my NAS a few weeks ago.

Lol I wouldn't say no, but I wouldn't want it to go to waste if I only used it for a little bit

Used to have a 4670K in a Gigabyte Sniper board, and I still have an unused Asus board, but either the cpu or board (I'm 99% sure it's the board) went out and I tossed both the cpu and board away as that's the day I jumped into a 6700K

I just want one to do another period specific build with my extra 780TI's and board; my neighbor let me have his kid's 780TI so I have 4 of them sitting in a bin now :anonymous:

14900KS leaks show 430ish watts of power draw.

One of the best FX/Bulldozer stories I've heard is what happened to Linus of LTT. At the time FX launched he still worked for NCIX and was fairly green. The story, as he tells it, is that he had a soft spot for AMD when he started at NCIX since his first system he built pre-NCIX was based around one of the famous Athalon 64s that absolutely took it to Intel during the Netburst years. Anyways, Core and Core2 come out and AMD flails around with Phenom and Phenom II just not being quite enough to match Intel, and sad Linus goes Intel for one of his early bigger budget builds. His AMD rep hears this, and tells Linus he'll be blown out of the water with what's coming with FX/Bulldozer. Finally Linus gets review samples to test and film a video for NCIX, and the results suck. Suck hard. Linus is a still a young rookie though and figures the results must suck because he's made a mistake, he never even thinks that AMD might of oversold FX/Bulldozer. He ends up rerunning his tests for literally 24 hours and withholds his video thinking he's done something wrong in the testing. Nope, it just sucked that bad, and that's one of the reasons Linus doesn't trust anything AMD or Intel says anymore.

Ya know, I must've missed all the hype just like I missed the bad reviews

I thoroughly enjoyed mine, but yeah the hype is all too real with a lot of things nowadays

I remember being a bit hyped up. Sandybridge had come out a year or two before and really gapped the Phenom II X4 I was running at the time. I didn't pre-order and ended up going Ivy Bridge on my next build. I didn't touch AMD again until Zen.

Been busy, but I said fuck it and got a case and PSU for this bad boy; not pictured or installed is a Corsair RM850X which is more than enough for the SLI setup

Went with a Lian Li 205M Mesh case since it was both cheap and made for micro atx; I think micro atx boards in atx cases look silly

    20240302_155233.jpg

I did run a Corsair H100 AIO when I had my 4670K but opted for an air cooler this time around

    20240303_180004.jpg

My one complaint for anyone considering this case for a budget setup is the stupid one piece front panel header; I ordered an "extension" kit that'll allow me to individually place the pins as needed on my motherboard otherwise I can't do anything with my PC yet

Front panel extensions arrive today, should be 99% done with it once I get it all connected.

Just need to wait for an SSD to appear now, have to dig through my stash
