FE? I have the XC3 it's actually very quiet.

I'm tempted af to get a FE just cuz I think they're cool. I had a 3090 FE for a while and that thing was impressive, just major overkill for my application at the time so I got the 3080.

    Nope.

Was an EVGA FTW3 variant with 3 PCI-E ports (I say this because I know many brands only had 2 ports).

I remember building another PC with a 4070TI and one night my wife asked in the middle of the night if I was awake (headphones on, gaming).

I said yeah why, she said she asked cause my computer was much quieter

The Ryzen 7 7800x3d was in stock on Amazon briefly last night for $445. I was tempted, but I really want the 9800x3d. It's out of stock again as of this morning. :annoyed:

i am able to connect my record player to my midi controller (some numark dj controller i got years ago). This was controlled by the traktor dj software on my laptop. with the software i could record mixes so don't know why i wouldn't be able to record directly from vinyl to mp3. there very well could be some audio loss somewhere though.

How much is retail on the 9800X3D?

There's one selling for $540 near me; I don't need one but just wondering if that's high or low.

    475 US here

The scalpers aren't too successful here, I see lots sitting on market place.

People have started to realize they can wait, and if casual gaming you really dont need anything above a 7700x

I feel like that generation was the last of the gamer friendly cards. The AMD 500 series wasn't that powerful but it was great in terms of frames/dollar for mid range 1080P gaming. The nVidia 10 series made sizable gains over the 9 series, including double digit performance gains, a massive increase in VRAM, and the 1080Ti which is still a relevant card in many ways. Since then, we've seen lower and lower gains for more and more spend.

Personally, if I had either of these cards, I'm praying AMD knocked the 9000 series out of the park and is going to price it cheap. The 5070 and 5080 look to be garbage, especially when compared to the 4000 super series that it's priced against. There's single digit gains in most cases. We need someone to challenge nVidia's strangle hold in the market or Intel like stagnation is what we will get for generations.

    100%

I used to get excited about the latest GPU, having purchased both the 780TI and 1080TI on release.

Now I'm just sitting here wondering when I'll switch to AMD cause these 5xxx are a terrible value (from a gaming perspective) in my opinion.

    Yeah.
I never switched away from AMD, but not being a PC gamer I don't feel like I missed out. But yeah, I used to always jump on the latest when it came out. Then prices went over $500 and the incremental gains got less and less, so that slowed me down quite a bit. I still love the smell of taking a new card/motherboard out of the box . . .

I was just looking at my newegg order history for giggles. 20 years ago I bought a 7800GTX and an Athlon.

That would have likely been my last AMD cpu. I think my last ATI GPU was a radeon 7500. I don't forsee myself going back.

    I wish I could!

Mine deleted itself, so all I have are the old email receipts of my purchase.

I had bought the XFX 780I SLI motherboard, E8400, and my 9800 GTX+ gpus for SLI. The Thermaltake case I had was a beast too...full size and heavy as hell (Armor series).

Athlon, man that brings back memories

The orders are still there you just have to search for keywords.

I had an armor, the full tower one with the little door/wing things on the front? I want to say that was one of my first watercooled rigs with the acrylic 5.25" tanks that always cracked. That machine sure did keep my room warm though...

I tried looking through my order history, and other items were still there that were done after that PC purchase.

I remember doing a return on a mouse cause they couldn't deliver to my FPO/AP address :bananadead:

It's alright though, I still have that computer just not the case.

But yes it was the one with the swiveling front two panels, and the biggest side case fan you've ever seen. That blue color was awesome with the black case.

I had one of these ABS Tagan PSU's too. Never had issues with it and I didn't see many modular PSU's back in the day (2008).

I remember when Corsair started into the modular space, but had two different pin outs on their PSUs and didn't really make it clear that you couldn't use cables between certain product lines. Lots of learning lol.

It was especially interesting after the early iterations of SLI.

I had SLI on my old rigs, and several after that. The ribbon cables sorted out the whole "spacing" issue but it wasn't until we got into 1.5 and 2.0 slot spacing (along with ATX vs mATX boards) where we had to figure out which correct bridge to use. I remember one of my ribbon SLI cables cracking, and not knowing where the other one was, I think I bought two different bridges (non-ribbon) so I could continue running SLI :bananadead:

A lot more "figuring out" with a lot less information floating around the internet.
