    Ok I think, I think, I fixed my major issue. It looks like for some odd reason my ram was being undervolted. When I would go into the XMP profile it would come up as running at 1.35 volts, but then in the system information it would show only 1.2 volts supplied. Since I have a X399 board I can override the XMP voltage in the main power settings while still running the XMP profile so I did that and set my voltage to 1.38 volts (0.3 volts isn't going to hurt DDR4 ram.) Now no crashes so far.

    Yup, no crashes and I've been stress testing and gaming most of tonight. That was it. That being said I'm a little worried about my PSU still. I redid the math on my power needs and I'm kind of cutting it close. I should probably budget in a 1200 watt supply at some point and keep an eye out for 1600 watt supplies going on good sales.

    Glad it wasn't the PSU and was a fairly easy fix. The EVGA power supplies have been very good, at least for me. I picked up a 1200 watt IIRC over black friday. It was on sale for like $80US after rebates. I got it from B&H Photo. I haven't even taken it out of the plastic wrap. I'll use it for my next build. Can't remember if its a G2 or G3.

    The G2 and G3 are deceptively unrelated lol. Basically from what I’ve read EVGA wanted to release a line of smaller standard ATX power supplies with higher wattage ratings using premium components. Rather than make another letter for them they called them the G3’s lol. That’s what I like about the 1000w G3. Gold level efficiency at 1000w without the bulk of most in the class but still very good cooling and build quality.

    I'm sure other companies power supplies have this feature, but I like how my EVGA power supply only turns the fan on when it's necessary like during gaming.

    Yeah that’s pretty standard now though I think EVGA was the first to include a mechanical switch to enable or disable the feature AKA eco mode. Corsair now has PSUs that can link to the MB with a USB header for monitoring and custom fan profiles which is pretty cool.

    That's pretty interesting, I didn't know that. I just thought the G3 was smaller for SFF cases. I know mine all have the eco mode switch on them, but again, not sure if they are G2 or G3 power supplies. I only remember they are Gold rated with 10 year warranties.

    Both are gold rated with 10 year warranties. They do both share the same capacitors and such, but the boards and output pins on the modular plugs are different from what I've heard. The G3 in some cases requires different custom cables.

    I used to build all my gaming PCs and said I would never buy the pre-built nonsense, but recently I just bought an ibuypower machine. Honestly the price of parting out everything was actually about the same if not more, and I could never really pull off an install that was as clean as the pre-built ones. Plus I was feeling lazy and just wanted something that was good to go right away so I went the pre-built route this time around. Really happy with it so far and the cable management is really clean.

    Man... first I switch from a manual transmission to an automatic, now I am opting for pre-built PCs rather than building my own. I really am getting lazy haha!

    I love the feeling of putting the thing together though I agree the mid tier builders like ibuypower have really stepped up their game. There are several YouTube videos, Linus has the best IMHO, where they have random coworker order a bunch of PCs over the phone and review what they get for a set amount. What was really surprising to me was how good HP and Alienware compare now to the competition.

    In the last 5 years, I went from swearing I'll build and use desktops as my main machine forever to now primarily using my phone and using my laptop when I need something the phone can't do.

    So I figured out what I'm going to do for my PC upgrades.
    CPU: i5-3570K ---> i5-9600K
    Mobo: MSI Z77A-G45 ---> Asus Prime Z390-P
    RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3-1600 ---> 16GB G.Skill Trident Z DDR4-3000

    Might look into a different CPU cooler when the time comes as well. I currently have a Corsair H50 CPU cooler.

    Why not wait for Ryzen 2? It's only a month until the announcement/specifications and all the leaks are pointing to it handily beating Intel on price to performance even against the 9000 series.

    So the Ryzen 2400G + Asus ROG Strix B450-I system I built with my daughter stopped booting (the board with the CPU_FAN header issue), so I figured it was probably the motherboard. I ordered a replacement board and grabbed a 2600 at the same time to improve her gaming performance (she has a 1080 discrete graphics card so doesn't need the on-board graphics). Sadly, no love. I figured out it was actually the WD NVMe. New board did the same, so I attempted to re-install Windows and it could not write to the drive. Grabbed a Samsung EVO from Best Buy and she's back in action.

    So, I'm thinking about putting together a little media center PC or something with the 2400G. Anyone have any good ideas? I have RAM and some SSDs and hard drives. Just not sure what I would use it for, everyone has a PS4 or smart TV already. I'd like to get a couple of solar-powered security cameras, was thinking maybe a little security video station or something. Maybe just put it on the 2.4GHz side of the network to avoid eating up the good bandwidth. Not finding great options in the camera arena, though.

    Setup with the new case. Ditching the second (unmatching) monitor in the hope that it'll motivate me to buy a matching monitor.
