I thought it was kinda funny that 4.0 GHZ only got a 7.8. It's a K chip so I can overclock it but haven't felt the need to at this point.

That last pic is also out of date. I upgraded it to 32GB of RAM since then.

Meh, the whole windows experience rating system turned from being a mildly poor attempt to standardise minimum specifications into a driver for PC upgrades in pretty short order.

I do love the newish processor rating and benching tool built right into CPU-Z.

Just curious, did you stick with 7 because of comparability or you just don’t like the data collection in 10?

Yeah I loved the latches on the case. The lack of compatibility with AIO liquid cooling radiators was the only flaw I found with the case. It also doesn’t have a true USB 3.0 MB header connector which I found odd lol.

Between the data collection that you can't block and the ugliness of metro I have stayed with Windows 7. With 7 you can rollback and block a couple updates to stop the data collection.

That and 7 just works. 8 and 10 just suck. I would roll with Linux but it just won't run many of the programs I use. I have used Windows since 3.1. I have 6 PC/laptops at home and all are running 7.

I have tried 8 and 10 on a couple of computers but as an IT would get pissed at certain things and revert back to 7. I got tired of wondering why the F*K would they do it that way. Oh yes $$$$$$$

I have said many times Windows 10 is free but at what cost. Bill Gates would be rolling in his grave if he was dead. o_O

I'm using a Thermaltake Water3.0 CPU radiator and it's working just fine. It's not as fancy as the AIO ones. As far as USB3 the Gigabyte motherboard I am using has more than enough. For external devices ( I use plenty) I have a 7 port full power USB3 dongle box. I have a card reader, USB 2 Micro and mini, USB 3 Micro and Type C cables ready to connect to it.

It's hard to escape data collection these days. Windows, iOS, Android and even Linux (Ubuntu) does it.

    Yeah.

For gamers Windows 10 is the stuff. Also several major vendors like Adobe now develope around Windows 10 so if you want the speed and stability on the cutting edge software you end up running Windows 10.

I just left microcenter a bit ago. Picked up an asus gtx 1060 and an evga 650w g3 gold psu for my older sons computer. Hes been doing a lot of gaming on steam, flight sims and such, and i figured the integrated graphics on his i5-7500 are probably struggling.

I want a new video card, but at the prices they are going for now, I'll just wait. You can't touch a mid level card for under $400 because of the bitcoin miners driving prices through the roof.

I didnt do enough research when I built my rig many years ago. Bought a Sabretooth P67 motherboard and it had so many little things wrong with it right out of the box, and then also developed problems with it over the years (like all my PC Express ports failing..).

Had a Radeon 7970 3gb GPU which also just shit the bed 2 months after the warranty ended on the card..

So I swapped out my motherboard and gpu. Now running an Intel DZ68BC Extreme Series board with a Saphire RX580 4gb GPU, havent had any problems since. Had to go with the older intel board cause I didnt want to swap my cpu..

Yeah, card prices are crazy. The manufacturers are playing lip service too by saying they'll limit who can buy their cards. The reality is that they'll sell to anyone in any amount and with 200 MW mining centers setting up where electricity is cheap it's only going to get worse until crypto stabilizes.

What ever happened to those purpose-built mining machines? I remember when I was into bitcoin a long time ago, the first company to come out with a rig was butterfly labs or something..

Makes way more sense to buy one of those instead of buying a GPU and overclocking it to mine with. Uses a fuck ton of electricity and ruins the gpu as well

Man, they've made some huge gains since Sandybridge. Interesting that you chose not to go to a AMD board and processor.

Thatll be in my next build..

Honestly when my GPU crapped out I kinda freaked cause I had no working computer. So I was looking for the least expensive option to get everything up and running again. Im still running an i7 2700k, which was close to $500 when I originally bought it.

I used to do a fair amount of 3d modelling, game level design and graphic design, and even when compiling huge files my i7 was still more than enough to get the job done.

I built this current rig 8 years ago, GPU, Power Supply and Motherboard lasted 6 years, the rest of it is still going strong. My H80 cooler hasnt let me down once and my 2700k is rock solid. Although it does make me wonder how much better you can do with $500 in 2018 vs 2010 when it comes to cpus...

You mean ASICS. Application-specific integrated circuit. They still exist but they only work on one specific algorithm, like only mining Bitcoin. That's how they end up being more efficient than a GPGPU, they can run one specific Algorithm extremely efficiently. They basically are hardwired to run one equation set as fast as possible at very low power consumption. Change the equation and they can't do it. That's why GPGPU's have caught on again. They can run almost any algorithm so companies just mine whichever one at any given time makes them the most dollars per watt expended. Plus some new cypto currencies have algorithms that change slightly so that ASICS won't work for more than a week or two. That's why graphics cards are in such short supply right now.
