LG owns the IPS patent. They make some of the nicer displays.

Too many but also not enough mods
$360 isnt too bad for 1440p144hz IPS, GL850 was another $150 for a wide color backlight

After another couple of hours on the Asus last night, it's definitely going back. The backlight bleed is so minor that you'd only notice it during very specific circumstances, so I'd call it overall acceptable. I just can't get the right combination of sharpness, color temperature, and gamma where I want. It's so weird, it's like a "pick two" monitor. If you want nice color and sharpness your gamma is too dark. If you want accurate colors and good gamma you can't adjust the sharpness. Again, no idea why it's come so highly recommended. It's getting returned this afternoon.

Got the confirmation from Amazon the LG will be here tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how it compares.

I'm not really a PC gamer, but the last monitors I bought were actually 22" Samsung TVs. They had a game mode for color accuracy, and had the 60/120/240 "auto motion plus" thing. I used my PS3 with them, which only did games at 60hz anyway lol

Like I said, IPS panels are binned. Now most companies only use “A” grade panels but there are a few monitors, usually the too good to be true prices, that use panels that graded out lower. The problem is you never know why they graded out lower. Could be bleed in a funny spot or could be a lack of even color reproduction. You won’t know until it arrives and unfortunately reviewers usually get hand picked demo units that may not show the problems of that panel at a lower grade.

Also, and this sucks, most companies have a certain tolerance for dead pixels. Not jammed pixels, like where they’re a color, but totally dead pixels. Again, the cheaper the panel usually the more dead pixels are allowed on the panel.

TVs have larger input lag than a computer monitor. Some don’t care but I’d definitely stick with a monitor.

True, but supposedly the game mode cuts down on that since it's not processing the incoming signal. Was never an issue for me.

Oooo the 3300x is quite an interesting offering from AMD. Especially for people who only play games.

And the 550 chipset sounds interesting too

May as well buy a B550 or X570 board if you want the possibility of running a Ryzen 4X00 desktop chip. AMD announced yesterday that they will have Zen 3 products on the market by the end of the year but they won’t be compatible with either 300 or 400 series chipsets. Something about the way they’re built makes it too difficult to implement on older motherboards. Sad, since up to this point AM4 meant pretty awesome future proofing. I guess it’s the last chip to use AM4 anyways so not that big a deal but still, it would of been nice since a lot of folks bought B450 boards.

Yup. hopefully AMD sticks with doing 3-4 generations out of a socket. Be nice to go longer but really 4 years is pretty good, assuming the next generation socket provides some benefits and isnt like intel who seemingly just randomly changes it (I know its more indepth than that)

Be interesting if AMD offers more choices with single CCX/CCD's if they can. Thats one of the nice benefits of the 3300x being one one. (for things like gaming and VM's)

Probably pcie4, not many of those boards have support.

Got my new PSU installed last night. The difference in sound is amazing. The old power supply was an Apevia 600 watt 80+ gold, which isn’t bad but the fan was loud as hell.

That and it was a royal pain in the ass apparently to make Zen 2 work on 300 series chipsets. AMD doesn't want to go through that again.

There's a rumor that the infinity fabric on the Zen 3 chips will work at at 1:1 memory speed ratio up to 4200 mhz. If that's true there won't be any advantage left based on CCX layout and count. With Zen 2 it's pretty minimal anyway which is why 3rd Gen Threadripper games so well with 8 dies on the package.

Got my silverstone pwm fan hub today, so i should get that installed this week. While replacing the psu I discovered that cyberpower daisy-chained all 3 case fans into 1 molex connector, so i'll be able to get rid of the molex wiring as well since the fan hub uses sata power. I'm going with multiple m.2 ssd's on my next build to minimize wiring as much as possible :annoyed:

I realized that real quick since I currently have an ssd, hdd, rgb sata connection (which i might just disconnect since I don't care for rgb), and now fan hub that uses sata.

I hate that I need a RGB fan hub because otherwise I'd have no need for any power cables apart from MB, CPU, and GPU cabling.

exactly. my next motherboard will have multiple fan headers and zero rgb so I only need those main 3 cables.
