    Hi guys,

I'm looking to rebuild my CPU gaming desk which is also used for iRacing. The current table top has a long crack in it (I've had it for a while) but I will be reusing the legs from it. I've just been using 1 monitor for a while.

My question is regarding build material for the desktop itself. The desk will be roughly 50"w x 26"d x 26" h. I will be mounting a multi monitor arm to the desk using a grommet mount that came with the arm system. And it will be holding 3x asus 24"monitors.

My main concern is strength once that arm is mounted. Should I just make the top out of plywood vs (MDF/particle board) and how thick... 1/2"?

The racing wheel has its own mounting setup, it isn't in contact with the desk.

    Any suggestions are welcome. Thanks

Id personally go 3/4". As for MDF/plywood/ect just depends on you. MDF would be fine. Lowes (and probably home depot) offer plywood that has a pre-sanded side to it that when stained/painted/whatever actually looks pretty decent. I would just stain it or do something to protect the wood from accidental spills (be it plywood/mdf/or whatever). You might get away with 1/2" but it really depends what the span is between supports (ie legs). At potentially 50" it wont take all that much to cause it to sag with 1/2". That is also where you could add something like a 1x2 strip between the legs under the top in order to provide support too.

    Thanks
Sound great. I was looking at the sanded plywood yesterday. I was def going to stain it or maybe vinyl wrap the wood For protection. The bolt for the monitor holder only needs a 1/2" hole, would you suggest placing a 1x2 there also for reinforcement of forward lean?

Not the best picture but the "long skirt" and "short skirt" are what i was talking about for the 1x2s. As for your monitor mount....honestly cant help you to much there as it will just depends on your particular mount. if it only has one hole then thats probably all it needs.

Replaced 3 of my 4(5, does psu COUNT? eh they're huge/quieter fans anyways) case fans with Noctuas. I think the loudest part of my setup now is the WD black HDD.

Sounds like you’re happy with the redux fans? I want to get noctuas, but not gonna pay $30 per fan for the a12x25

I wasn’t sure what the difference in the redux fans and more expensive ones were so that’s good to know. I need PWM fans since my current ones are 3 pin and go 100% all the time

Damn, from the rumors it looks like Ampere is going to dance all over Turing. Like my 2080Ti might be as good as a 3060 lol.

There's also nothing to say that RDNA 2 won't be competitive. I gave it 50/50 odds that AMD can touch the 3080 this time around with one of their cards. Intel Xe is a real wild card. I'm guessing they have shit all in the highend space in the near future but who knows. They're using a multichip design like Ryzen, which hasn't been proven for GPUs yet, which I can see being limited to the low end space in its first launch.

Wish AMD and Nvidia would move their asses. I would like to upgrade my 1080 Ti before Cyberpunk 2077 releases on September 16th.

Sounds like it won't happen by then. AMD might announce their cards in June and nVidia in September, but that's pretty optimistic IMHO.

Not really a PC build, but redoing my file server.

Small footprint, quiet, built in battery, easy access to drives. The drives are 2TB each. Probably going to convert the filesystem to ZFS today. (And yes, I have a couple regular backups)

I only buy noctuas at this point. Amazing quality, super quiet. I have a NH-U12S SE-AM4 with extra fan in push/pull config on my AMD 1700 (non-x). I used to keep the cpu running 100% 24/7 doing research on cures for cancer and stuff, but I lost faith in the organization running it and quit about a year ago. Now its just a bill paying machine. I actually don't mind the brown on brown either.

I haven't really built much lately, other than a 2600x system for my niece when covid hit and she had to telework. I picked up the 2600x for 99 bucks at microcenter. Ended up building the entire system for 600 total. I tossed in an old GTX1050 I had laying around, and a crucial mx500 SATA ssd. She wanted the RGB fans so I added some of those too.

Also, not really much of a build, but over Christmas I set up a 48TB RAID6 QNAP NAS for my Plex server. I went with the TVS-672N. So far it has been very good. Only issue I can't seem to resolve is I installed a quadro p2000 for hardware transcoding ability with Plex Pass, but I can't get Plex to actually use it. I may end up putting the QNAP back to stock (I added 32GB RAM and noctua case fans) and selling on ebay, then build a new Windows box in a large case big enough to hold 6x12TB drives. Other than that the QNAP is a beast. Even has 5Gb onboard NIC. None of my switches are faster than 1Gb, so it's not much use to me though.
