nVidia will neither confirm nor deny this is a 3080, so it's likely a 3080.

So the founders edition will be ugly as fudge and coming to a store near you for over $100 more markup. Supposedly this cooler costs $150 a piece to make :boom:

It deeply bothers me that Nvidia is so far along in development that reference cards are being leaked yet we don't have an ounce of information about performance numbers or a release date.

AMD has already said they're bringing their new GPUs to the table before console release and they anticipate they'll trade blows at the upper echelon of performance. Just wish we had numbers and dates. My 2060 is hanging in there just fine, but I'd really like a 3070 or equivalent to push higher framerates at 1440p.

People forget AMD/ATI and nVidia used to drop a new card series or update every year. The 900/1000/2000 series had the long gaps that people now assume is the new norm. If AMD can catch up I anticipate a lot quicker release cycles.
Or my used 2080Ti so I can get a 3080Ti, right :spending:

Not really. Any decent SSD has it's own DRAM internal cache that does exactly what this program does by caching "hot reads," to reduce drive wear. This is a good program for SSDs sold without a cache though.

Edit: Holy shit they want $60 for that lol. No thanks, for that you can just buy a small cached NVME or Optane 16 GB drive and use AMD StoreMi or Intel Optane boost. Either of those options would give an effective larger cache without the overhead of this program. Optane SSDs will outlast your ram. At first I thought it was free and then I thought it was an okay option for cacheless drives, but what they want for what you get is crazy IMHO.

It is absolutely just my opinion. My point, if anything, is that their software pricing is matched by simply adding more hardware which isn't great. I'd look into Optane on Intel or StoreMI on AMD to build a cache before paying that much for a RAM caching system. Especially since most solid state drives people buy already have a DRAM chip in them, usually 2 GB just like the program steals from your system memory, which does exactly what this program does.

Also I quotation marked hot reads because reading SSDs doesn't wear them much. It's the writes that kill them and I doubt this program does anything for that. It's a bit misleading for them to act like reading with TRIM enabled will kill your drive. In the end most SSDs die from writes, not reads.

If I offended you that wasn't the point. How you spend your money is completely up to you. I wanted to have a discussion and I think we've done that, now people can decide how to spend their money. I guess in the 7+ years it takes for a normal SSD to fail one of us will be right. I don't see value in their product given the native TRIM and on board DRAM cache with SSDs but I'm not going to pretend like my opinion is the end all be all on the subject.

As for your Optane troubles, never run a PC without a UPS. I do computer repair for folks I know, I think you might as well, and surge protectors aren't enough. I've seen too many random failures happen shortly after a period of storms or brownouts to chalk it up to coincidence. With PC components now tightly regulating their own power any unexpected drop, even a power outage, can kill components. Not to mention how often Windows 10 likes to do an update randomly. A good UPC is only $100 now, I highly recommend you look into one for your personal PC.

I need to replace the battery in my UPS. A quick look online leads me to believe it's cheaper to just buy a new UPS. (APC ES 750). I mostly need it for my PS4.

Yeah, it's kind of sad it's cheaper to replace the whole unit instead of just the battery. Depending on the model you could always check your local specialty battery place, if one is near you, sometime they have refurbished batteries for cheap.

Depends on the UPS. The two Schneider systems in our data center are a little more than $100 each. But we could power a whole bunch of PS4s off those things.

It would be sweet now that we have USB connected PSUs in existence if a company made a PSU with a laptop battery inside as a short term UPS. It could have just enough power to complete a shutdown cycle and still be a good product.

Sadly thats how it is with a lot of electronics these days. New is so cheap, its not worth paying someone to buy the replacement part and install it when you can just buy new.

But speaking of batteries I do need to pick up a new one for my APS but thankfully replacement batteries for it are reasonably priced at ~100 bucks.

So are these new gpu's later this year only going to be high end models? All i'm seeing is rtx 3080, 3080ti, and 3090 as well as big navi card(s) that will compete with the high end nvidia cards.
