I've got my student pilots certificate took ground school and passed the written exam just have to finish up and take the checkride this summer. Hey SoonerTaco how's the aviation program at OU? I'm a Junior in HS right now and I've heard they have a good program but haven't actually talked to anyone that's taken over there.

It's a great program, and great people. It's a lot of work but definitely worth it. We fly the piper warrior III for most of our training, and then an Arrow for complex, and Seminole, Barron, and King Air for your multi and turbine training (if you want to go that far). The whole program is very structured and you will really get a lot out of it. You should come check it out sometime! Let me know and I can get you in contact with someone.

I flew the King Air C90B this last fall and it was a blast, so much fun to fly!

DO NOT pay for turbine training. once you have enough time to get a job flying one they should pay to train you.

paying for turbine time is like paying for sex. you can do it and it'll be fun but with time and patience it comes for free.

I went to Embry Riddle Aero Univ back in 00-01. The school just got too expensive, and at the time anyone with time could get a good job. I decided a 4 yr degree in flying a plane was probaly not the best idea so I transfered and got my ratings on the side. I'm glad I did, I still talk to a few people that stayed there, it's not an industry I would want to be in. I miss flying but I enjoy having a life better.

I think life flight would be a sweet gig, I dont know a whole lot about it, but the flying would be more fun.

We're hiring like crazy right now (again), just brought in 160 pilots and have re-opened our pools for lots more new hire classes over the summer. I've been looking around at smaller airlines too, lots of hiring going on.

I wouldn't say it is mass retirement, but because just a few years back they had extended the retirement age from 60 to 65, there are going to be a few more that would have retired over the past few years now hiting that age, but it just pushes others back because now they are just turning 60 and would have been retiring.
I think the biggest effect on us for this may have been the hiring, because we haven't had anyone retire for 3 years now, no new available positions.

I don't know for sure about OU so I can't say anything bad, but I know quite a few of our check pilots all went to OSU, and a few other pilots as well. I only "know" of 1 or 2 OU pilots here. This does not mean anything about which school is better, this is just an observation by me. Besides who would ant to be a Sooner :D, Hook em!

Yeah I know that, but I did and I really enjoyed it and it has helped out a lot with my flying, it was mostly a ground course which I learned a lot from.

Going to be a Bush Pilot? I've always thought that would be pretty cool.

Yep, the days of being a military pilot and then working your way up to a major airline as a captain at $250K a year are long gone.

You have to want to fly today for the love of flying.
