there are quite a few tacomaworld members scattered around the continent who can tune you for a lot cheaper than you buying the entire system yourself.

My eyes have gotten more sensitive to light as well and I too wear sunglasses all the time...my wife says I wear them to look cool. I tell her just because she views me as super cool, does not mean I'm TRYING to appear that way....it is just a gift from God.

That's ok with OVtune to allow others to provide his tunes?

Yup. The VFTuner system was designed that way on purpose. Let the community get involved with tune tweaking and helping each other out.

Perhaps I am mistaken. Thinking back on it a lot of dealers have only been posting stock photos so the manual transmission may have been a typo/error. Might explain why I could not find one on the lot haha.

Sometimes I just sit and enjoy my coffee and wonder if there would really be a difference in the world if I had gone with an Off Road..

    Probably not.

I have been heavily debating doing the OVTune. Need to find out if any of the local members around me have done this as I am not sure if it will fail my yearly inspection? F'n Massachusetts...

It won't. It doesn't change the ECU ID and there's no way for the dealership to detect it.

Great to know! Thank you! I been debating on it but it had me nervous for buying something that expensive and not knowing if I will get screwed by my states inspection process. They recently started really cracking down on it.

Some dealers intentionally post certain specs in error, to draw customers/interest in in the hopes they keep looking at other configurations.

There's a dealership in Edmonton that def does this. Back a few months ago, they had 6 OR "6 speed" listed. When I enquired, they said, "that's right, 6 speed automatic". Some have even posted as "MT" when it's not. Not fn cool.

That would make sense. Especially given most of these have no actual photos of the truck. All that tactic does is make me want to never deal with them.

    Like, so many.
I had a 3rd Gen Sport and really enjoyed it. But I noticed as I was upgrading it, I was making it more and more like an OR. I was in a bad accident too. Not dissimilar to OPs, so when I had the opportunity, I jumped into an OR. It’s a better fit for me personally, but I get the appeal of the Sport.

    2020 Tacoma
As my first post here, I just purchased a plain 2020 Tacoma SR. The only option I would find useful is the locking differential, but having an old 4x4 truck, I found myself using the 4HI often on the farm, but rarely even needing the 4LOW. I think even with lockers, the limiting factor would be the tires. If you don't have really knobby off road tires, then that feature would only be somewhat helpful. I easily took the air dam off the front bumper and installed a Curt front hitch so I can put a winch on the front or back of my truck as needed and leave it in my house or cab when not in use. If I run into anything, it will hit that front hitch first and it was only $200, so I won't loose sleep over hitting anything with it. On the more premium trim lines, they said the front bumper needed to be cut out to accept the front hitch. Well if I spent over $40K on a truck and had to saw up my new bumper I would be irritated. After my warranty expires, then I can change the suspension, add a lift kit and steel bumpers, and other things as needed. But all those electronic features just looked like more things to break. And the rear 120V outlet looks cool, but limited, so if I really wanted to run AC power I would just buy something more capable.

Its fairly flat here and if I was planning on using the truck for real off-roading more, then the other options would be a consideration if I could actually use them on a regular basis. But my first mod was peeling the ugly red SX 4x4 stickers from the sides of the bed. It looks much better plain.

With the 13-pages of answers... I'm curious @bosstaco did you buy the voodoo blue sport? or did you go find an OR instead?

Also glad to hear you made it out alive!

For myself, I test drove the OR and the Sport several times before making a decision... which landed me in a TRD Sport. 99% of my drives are pavement, daily commute, and dirt country roads. I'm slowly going to build it up a bit for overland travel. I don't intend it to become a true off-road vehicle IMO that's what an ATV is for and will cost far less when trail damage arises. After 10-months of daily driving in the stock Sport, I'm getting ready to install the first mods: rock rails and a full set of skid plates.

What about you? What are your plans for your new taco?

Where do you live. Colorado? California mountains? I guess I could use a locker but.. mehhh. I hopefully have someone in front of me to pull me out or behind me that can yank me out.

I had a 2015 Prerunner SR5. 7BE2DB96-A6BD-48BE-B192-D499242976FA.jpg Loved it but it’s 2wd. 2 years I traded in. I Bought the sport and just wanted a sr5 4x4 but they had Blazing Blue Pearl and made me a offer that was cheaper than any other Trd model in the state.

I took it and haven’t looked back. I never even thought of taking it on trails till I found my way to tacomaworld!

I’ll keep my 2017 sport. 90,000 miles and counting!

A few months ago you could of unloaded that off-road when they were paying crazy money for trucks. The market adjustment seems to have came back to reality!

@BookieBob , i quite like the grille on your Blazing Blue Pearl taco! Mind sharing where you picked it up from? Also, your DCSB is it MT or Auto? Here in Alberta if its a Sport DCSB its MT. Just curious. Enjoy the backcountry of WI. I've 80% of my family are all in the land of cheese-heads! hahaha.. once this COVID thing ends, I'll be road tripping it to WI for some family reunion time. Perhaps a brief stint in Racine for an outdoor adventure?
