Any sport owners regret not getting an offroad?

It's like Merc putting AMG on everything, BMW with M, Audi with S, Ford will start doing it with 'Raptor' [Bronco]. Slapping TRD on things = printing money.

 

Traded in my 18 sport for a 20 OR. Haven’t looked back.

 

TRD Sport gets the stiffer suspension compared to the SR5 for better on road characteristics. I also like that the stiffer suspension helps against sagging from adding weight like accessories and random heavy loads.

 

I think short-term I regret not getting an OR because I'm missing rear lockers, but if I keep the truck, I'll re-gear and add rear and front air lockers anyway so long-term I'd probably be okay with it. I also got the sport because it was the only MT in my area.

 

Be careful OP. I bought a new 2015 Sport back in 2015 then found Tacoma World. I got in my own head after that about how I needed a locker. Sold it for that reason and bounced around a couple vehicles before I got a 2018 Off Road. In the 15k miles I had it, I checked to make sure the locker worked once but never again. I did use 4x4 multiple times though but never needed low.


The Sport will serve just about everyone purpose but of course there are people who legitimately use the locker. Looking back, I wish I would have kept my Sport. Would have saved me a lot of money up to now after I traded so much after that. (Still doesn’t change the fact that Tacoma’s cruise control is unbearable to me no matter what gen)

 

Wtf people, that’s also not true. Springs hold weight, not struts or shocks. So much misinformation in this thread.

 

yes you can also use maxtrax/traction boards which is what I do in the meantime. $300 lockers

 

Ok no need to get offended here. I'm pretty sure I read that the shocks and springs are different from the other trims. I could be wrong about the springs but I know I'm right about the shocks. From my experience of putting over 600 lbs of weight and barely noticing any sag in the bed makes me think the springs are different too.

Tacomaworld will convince you that you can’t survive without the OR cause rear locker lol. I had a 2017 OR for 2 years and not once did I need the locker or crawl control. I like the skewp and the color matched wheel flares and such. I also prefer the ride of the Sport. That was worth more to me than a locker and crawl control that I’d never use.

 

I will say the stock OR suspension package is MUSH. The 6112's I have completely changed the ride for the better - its so well damped right now that its actually quite enjoyable to drive. I drove 150 miles on the stock OR suspension before I couldn't take it anymore.

 

I have read other OR owners complain that the suspension being too "soft" for street driving.

 

Right, cruise control is pretty funny. It works most of the time but a heavy reminder that it's a truck when you want it to feel kind of more like a car, lol.

 

Scoop should be on every model imho.

 

I had a 2015 sport and didn’t like the harder ride. With an empty bed the rear end hopped around a lot. The off road model rode much better to me.

I bought a sport because I got six grand off MSRP at a post Black Friday lot clearing sale.

Of course, I did that because my SR5 got smashed by some clown on his phone who didn't see a bright orange truck at the intersection and decided to just plow through it 50 mph.

first thing I did with my sport was find somebody with the same color and swap hoods. Couldn't stand the scoop being in the way of my line of sight. The road manners in that truck are most excellent. Once I started off-roading I started looking for suspensions. Driving a manual off road and four low over rocks is painful on the sports suspension.

And for everyone calling the sport and appearance package, the shocks are a lot tighter than the off road or the SR5. It also has the obvious scoop, the color match fender flares (not my thing) AAANNDD....... The PLASTIC AIR DAM (under the bumper) so.... Booya.

Also the off road comes with an inclinometer in the hud. So that's cool.

Overall, get the one in the color you like with the finances you can afford. I My inferno SR5 everyday... but as of 2018 the two best colors they ever offered are no longer available. Rip Inferno & Blazin Blue Pearl

 

I have not had an OR and in fl we don't need 4x4. I would get it if I did. This just makes me be a better driver. I have had a 10sr5 and 17 sport.

Ps: I have witnessed one ladies panties hit the ground upon viewing the scoop tho

 

I have a 2016 sport, at the time I wanted a OR, my sport was the only one on the lot, and thought it was a beaut Clark, so no!!!
Adding things slowly, and goes everywhere I want it to go, a keeper :}

 

I don’t think it’s quite that. My 5.7 1500 and my Cummins don’t have issues. It’s a Tacoma thing.
