I've been very slowly trying to create a street/hot rod style for my Taco. I was just looking for like minded, for ideas and looks

I haven't dove into the engine and exhaust yet. I've played with tires (height and width), and brands. I'm slowly getting my suspension parts replaced (bushings, tie rods, control arms), and I'm installing Duralast GT rotors and pads tomorrow. Online looking at shocks and struts today..... not sure what I'm going with yet. Any suggestions from anyone? Looking for handling, but not lose too much ride.

The Prerunner presents a unique opportunity/challenge for a street-rod look.
It’s essentially a 2wd with the rest of the 4wd suspension, so it looks like a 4wd but is 2wd. The “normal” 2wd has an entirely separate suspension.

The X-Runner is built from the normal 2wd suspension- being sport-truck version of the 2wd.

I’m working on what is, essentially, an old-school rodding of a 95 2wd. I’m presently working on suspension & optimizing the 2.4 engine. Body mods (if any) can come later, but I’m thinking of retro-ing to take on elements of earlier Toyota pickups, but with the more modern engine & suspension. The Tacoma was deviated from the Hilux specifically to make it a more comfortable & better driving vehicle, at the cost of sheer ruggedness, so that is a better starting point than an earlier Toyota.

    Initial questions:
Do you want real handling & power improvement (“go”) or more hot-rod looks (“show”)?
If more show, are you thinking lowrider?

SOS performance (aka Tundra Racing )makes a lowering kit for prerunners 2in front 3.5 rear .Not slammed and rides is good to me .Not harsh . Engine mods, magnuson supercharger available or search performance thread for NA mods .Now tunes from HP and Ovtune can make the most of those mods .
Keep us updated on what you got going

I want a unique modern hot rod look (never really seen it). The handling from stock is pretty darn good with the right tires. I'm eyeballing some modern Kragar rims..... maybe 20". The truck is on 22's now with a higher profile and wider tires in the rear. I'm also looking at an exhaust upgrade. I'm wanting more of a growl/ rumble sound..... and dual side exhaust. That's really why I started this thread...... ideas and pictures of work already done. I definitely want more power... but from what I've seen on here, there isn't much more i can really do besides a super charger (which I definitely want).

Which engine does the 2wd Prerunner have?
(helps on exhaust- 2-bangers like different ones than bigger 6s- airflow optimizing, etc)

I’m presently thinking of doing a slightly modernized/Taco-ized (to fit body lines) version of this:

Pics of your truck for ideas ?
TR drop kit will be a good start . The STANCE is what makes the look of a hot rod . Also loose the bull bar would be another suggestion.

Why can't lowered 4wd's play? Same suspension as the prerunners.. SOS performance 2"/3.5" drop on my 4x4. And a supercharger to make it hot rod-ish

I've mainly been working replacing worn out suspension parts. So far I've replaced the lower control arms, tie rods, and rear leaf springs. I've also replaced the rotors, pads, and calipers with a higher performing set. There's still quite a bit of work to do on the suspension. I figured I should start there, before diving into making it faster. Super charger, headers and exhaust (side pipes), and air intake are on the list after that......then there are more modern upgrades. As far as looks, I'd a mix of old flared out hot rod trucks and modern street. Most trucks now have the fender flares, but they're too rugged looking for my taste. I want smoother and more like they flow with the truck. I bought mud flaps and had painted them to match, but I'm working on customizing them with fiberglass and bondo, sanding (maybe carving a tiger paw), then painting them again. Hood scoop, billet grille (already have), custom headlights and foglights, amber lighting in grille and bed , and finally a dark candy purple paint.

TR drop kit rides nice if looking for better handling. Shorter bump stops in front and good to go . Yea replace the worn out stuffs first to be safe .Then go for broke lol. Got the TR kit . Love it . Added xrunner spoiler in front . Modded side xrunner skirts to run on my double cab and still deciding if going to. Still need to finish .Have not worked on it for last 7 months .

    I like that blue?

Look at old Clemson stuff. They used to use various blues as the accent/outline to the classic orange & white (the traditional primary school athletic colors-for some reason the last 2 decades have gone crazy for the purple).

    Fun fact:
Clemson used to list colors as-
    Primary- Orange & white
Secondary- Indigo (or navy or blue or purple, depending on era).

Don’t believe me on the blue?
Find an older image of Death Valley’s west endzone. The big light up paw used to be on a royal blue square. This one:
    28A1CD65-0C5F-4CA6-93C4-E87B0393D1D7.jpg
The actual sign is now on the side of an athletic building, with the blue painted white. When it’s scratched, the blue is obvious.
