It's going to be a bench so im going to leave it open. If it were a coffee table I would probably fill it with clear epoxy.

Oh, ok, it's a bench. That approach makes sense, then. I was assuming it was going to be an end/coffee table from the size.

Looks awesome. I would love to do more live edge stuff but sadly my fun time in the shop is really limited lately.

I know how it goes. I've been out of the shop for the most part for over a year.

I was hunting for new ideas for ornaments and stumbled across it. Definitely going to give it a try when I find some time.

God knows I've got plenty of seasoned oak and maple in my firewood pile, lol.

I have a lot of maple right now. You could also use that idea and put a ball in it and make a baby rattle.

I would go with a second Dutchman. That crack goes close to the other end. I would also fill in with some clear to protect bare thighs from getting pinched:eek:

Definitely another dutchman at the same distance from the left side as the one is from the right

That idea would create symmetry and prevent any more separation from sitting.

Are you milling your own wood?

I don't know if I would make it the same distance as the other. Nothing else on this project is symmetrical (good thing) so why start with the second dutchman?

I wish I had a mill. I do however have a number of people within a 60 mile radius that mill wood. I picked up this piece from a guy I was buying a bunch of quarter sawn red oak from. He had this live edge piece sitting there. I picked it up for about $20.
