Seeing your bed frame inspired me to design this. When I get some time I am going to try and built this. I have been wanting one for awhile. I would build a more elegant looking one if I had a router and other tools. I'll just do this out of pine and stain or paint it. Its all 4x4's, 1x4's, 1x6's, and 2x8's

built this furniture set last fall. I did not have much experience with woodworking, but took it slow and it turned out pretty good. Still need to find a sewing machine so I can do that back cushions.

Be careful doing it out of pine. The pine at the Box stores isn't kiln dried most times so it is still kinda wet. It will move and warp on you as it dries.

I agree with this, a bookcase I built from home depot pine has 1/4 gaps everywhere because the wood dried completely and shrunk!

Very true. Although it is marked KD-HT and is in fact kiln dried and heat treated, construction grade is only kiln dried down to maybe 13 while furniture grade is dried to 6-8%.

Also, pine can stain really blotchy if you don't use the right process.

Keep in mind also that it is kiln dried when it leaves the lumber mill , how / where it is stored after that is a whole other set of circumstances

Every woodworker should own a moisture meter

Good to know. The lumber I was going to use was marked kiln dried, but I wouldn't have known how much.

x2 pretty much impossible to make anything nice/fine out of any wood from box stores, other than maybe the kiln-dried poplar and such, but you still need to build it immediately if you can't store it in a stable environment and stacked correctly.

Year u should always let the wood acclimate to the environment it is going to reside in. If you build it in a non conditioned shop and take it inside to a conditioned house you will likely get gaps.

True dat. We could have an entire thread on moisture and drying (Woodnet has several). You can actually buy the pine 1x material and store it in your house a while to acclimate. It helps alot BUT you will still want to build using methods that will allow for the continued shrinkage over time.

Using wood properly kiln dried to furniture grade standards of 6-8% definitely prevents "issues".

I've got wood and lots of it (something like 15,000+ bf) :D Trouble is most of it is just air dried or in the process of air drying. Here's a couple of teasers. I actually bought my own Nyle/Wood-Mizer dry kiln but now need to find the time and money to construct a building to house it.
