Ford doesn't come with a manual option if that matters to you

only full size manual option left is the Ram Cummins HD, and judging by reports that will disappear soon too. Everyone jumped out of the manual option years ago

Thank you for the concern! It's OK though. We relocated for my work and to be closer to my family. My wife's new job (she's a teacher) is in one of the best school districts in the country, but the pay is significantly less than it was in Denver. Additionally, because it's not a low income school district, she lost her grant for her student loans and we have to assume those. Adding $10k in debt and reducing our household income by $10k put us in an unnecessary strain, so I sold the truck. Driving an older car is an inconsequential trade-off to see my wife happier, more energetic about work, and loving life.

every time a damn F150 thread pops up here, I start looking at them pretty hard. then i see that the only way to get dual climate control is to drop $50k on a Lariat.

I didn't opt for dual climate on my TRD, I guess that's in the tech package? Way I see its my truck and I'll set the temp to my liking.

I looked at both. The Eco Boost had to many problems early on and the leap of faith that Ford did the fix was to much for me. I liked their V8 but didn't really need it. If I go to a FS I would compare the Ford F 150 to the Tundra with a very dated engine. The Fords are nice but nice for how long. Seems to me the Toyota's keep running and running. The Fords should if you get a good one. If you don't......

I know next to nothing about the Tundra other than it is dated and seems to need a face lift.

I don't see much of a comparison between the Tacoma and the F150. just to different truck genres to bother comparing the two. Fords sell well up here and, with the exception of their diesel, have a solid reputation.

    Take Care

this was my first toyota truck and will be my last. for the same money I've been looking at the 15 chevy colorados z71 4x4 double cab long bed v6 for the same price i paid for my 4x2 4 banger cant go anywhere with sand or haul anything tacoma. and somehow all the new v6s on every other make of truck get better mpg than the 4 cyl baby truck i have now. which is what all the guys at work call it.

I know but that means I have to trade in my 16 AT and I already have done so much to it.

I have both. I've bought the Tacoma 172,000 miles and 9 years ago. It has been the best truck I've ever owned including several older F-150's. In fact I traded a 2002 SCREW in on the Taco. In 2007 I didn't need the size of a 1/2 ton, today I do.

I considered trading the Taco on a new 2016 Ford, but ultimately decided it was worth more for me to keep than trade. I compromised and found a 2014 F-150 with 17,000 miles on it for about the same money out of pocket it would have cost me to trade for a new one.

I don't know what the real world prices are on Tacoma's right now, but I could have driven a 2016 SCREW 4X4 XLT with either the 3.5 or 5.0 engine off the lot for around $41K. I could have gotten one with the 2.7 engine for closer to $38K. And I actually think that engine would have been my choice. It gets BETTER fuel mileage than anything, including Tacoma's, will out run both the 5.0 and 3.5 and still tow 8,000 lbs if equipped right.

    My observations:

I don't expect the Ford to last 172,000 miles with no issues like the Tacoma. But I don't expect major issues either. The comfort and size is no comparison. Even with the 5.0 V-8 my F-150 gets exactly the same fuel mileage as the 2007 Tacoma.

The Tacoma isn't as comfortable or quiet. But it is a much better performer off road and I fully expect to get a lot more miles out of it.
