i have this post nasal drip and when I go to bed at night it seems my nasal passages close up and it’s difficult to breath and really effects my sleep. I have done nasal sprays, allergy tablets, Neti pot with saline solution and just about everything imaginable.

My primary Dr. checked and said I do have narrow passageways and said a ENT would be the person to see.

I’m sure that some form of surgery will be required to open up my nasal passages but I’m kind of freaked out about a Dr doing this.

Has anyone had this done? What does in entail?

Subbed for info, i snored like a mofo and when docs tried to throw an NG tube in years ago they found i had deviated septum. The ramming and slamming around they gave trying to force the tube helped me breath better once i came to, but i should prolly have some surgery done too.

I know your pain. I have never been able to breath through the right side of my nose and have trouble breathing at night when I sleep. They said I had sleep apnia and did all the same things they did to you with me. I also get sinus infections from it as well.
They finally found the problem and it blew me away. Im 59 and was told my nose was badly broken and I had suffered a fractured skull when I was a baby. Nobody ever told me.
I need to have the surgery to repair the damage but figure I have lived with this all my life and I will just live with it. I was told the surgery will help but make sure you find someone who is good because there are things that can go wrong.

I have had nasal surgery (septum surgery) for the same reason about 1 year ago. The best thing I ever did. Surgery was no big deal, day surgery. The recovery SUCKED. After surgery i went home and was out of work for 1 week. I wasn't allowed to blow my nose for 1 week. That is very hard, cus your nose will fill up with hard mucus and you aren't allowed to blow your nose to get it out. You will have a hard time sleeping because your nose is stuffed with hard mucus. Your nose needs to heel, that's why you can't blow your nose. After a week, I returned to my ENT and he allowed me to blow my nose in his presence. After I blew my nose, all was fantastic. I can sleep better, I breath better, I feel better. My nose use to get stuffed up just sitting on the couch watching TV. I would have to get up and go for a walk outside just to clear my sinuses. My ENT said that when you sit on the couch, "My active glands" are not active, they are at idle, thus causing my sinuses to clog. When I go for a walk my body reactivates my "active glands" thus clearing my glands. So, having the surgery would open my sinuses and allow me to breather normally. Hope this info helps, good luck to you. Hope all pans out for the good.

Yep, that’s why I’m scared about this. But I’m tired of being tired. I’m going to check into this.

Both my septums were deviated for a very long time. They did surgery, didnt hurt one bit. Worst part was pulling gauze out after 2 days and a blood rush. Then they took out the rest of the stitches a week later. I am a little better, seems that septums started to deviate again however I could not smell my whole life and I can kind of smell now. If it is the same surgery then it is super easy and doesnt hurt at all.

I even did a sleep study and went on cpap. I had 10 apnea events an hr. which is a mild diagnosis.
5 apnea events per hr. is considered normal so I was boarder line. The cpap helps because it has a humidifier attached and the moisture keeps my nasal passages from drying out.

But! Sometimes I’m so clogged up the cpap doesn’t work. I think once I have the surgery, I can drop the cpap also.

I am also on a Cpap. I have sleep apnea, I snore so loud, that I wake up my son who sleeps down the hall from my wife and I. According to my sleep study, I stopped breathing 15 times an hr. Since my surgery, I still use my Cpap, it does help me sleep better. Just because I had the surgery, that didn't allow me to stop using my Cpap. I do breath 100% better, even with my Cpap at night. You still may need to use your Cpap, you will just sleep better.

Had this done twice about 10 yrs ago
I think they call it turbanation opened up sinuses
First time also tried to fix deviated to septum by just pushing it which didn't work
Second time 2yrs later they just went in and did septum
Doc told me I must have banged my nose a bunch of times
It came on all at once for 2yrs I keep getting sinus infections
I could never sleep with my mouth closed but now I can
I would say it was success my recover wasn't to bad either time some swelling more pain the first but not bad
True about the no blowing nose and gauze
Got to find the right doc

Had a deviated septum a couple years back. Surgery was quick on a Thursday, the following Monday the splints and packing were removed. Took a super hot shower the next day and everything that was in there let loose and it felt absolutely glorious to breathe again.

just had my deviated septum fixed over a year ago. the surgery is in and out one day takes about a month of no physical exertion so your blood pressure doesnt get too high and you bleed then they remove the plastic shield thing in your nose and ive been able to sleep and breath while exercising way easier!

I remember for mines they stuck a hose in my nose and sucked out the meat that was blocking the passage way.
