I need to see if my temp probe is still working but my display is toast. Wanted to see if anyone would meet up for 10 minutes so I could try their display in my truck

Does the display light at all, or is it showing bad/no info? If it doesn't light it's fairly easy to id the problem just by looking at the board. And fix if you're good with solder. If it lights and shows bad/no info, it's still worth looking at the board, because there are two... resistors was it? that tend to pop loose, and I think only one of the causes no display while the other might be the bad info one.

Ah, gotcha (Three! Geez. Only had mine fail once so far). I'd offer, but I'm a bit out of your way. :)

Any chance an OBDII reader would display the temp probe output?

There is a guy on TW who sells these used for those who want to upgrade to them. Think he has an ebay store as well. Can't find him in quick search though.

So talking to Bob, apparently the mirror I have is looking for a digital probe input where as my truck still uses a analog

If you have an analog sensor, then you can use a multi-tester to check output.

If you have a mirror which requires a digital sensor/probe, then how about adapting one to your truck?

I got a bit lost in the overhead display versus mirror with temp display chatter. Do you have the wrong mirror for your vehicle? If mirrors are different, then which model years have the mirror you're looking for? Clarifying that may help people help you.

There may not be many people who are willing to risk having their mirror damaged by plugging it into your vehicle, particularly if your vehicle has a broken one (if I'm understanding the situation correctly).

I'm ignorant to this topic (not something I've delved into), which may mean plenty others in this "great community" are too. Maybe clarifying some of the above will entice, and enable, someone to help.

There is a whole thread dedicated to this topic. I'm trying to plug an OEM part into an OEM location where mine used to be. That's whatnot trying to borrow for about 5 minutes to make sure in getting a good reading....as for the mirror I'm now using is what I'm trying to get to display the temperature. But wanted to verify my probe still worked properly before I try to convert the output signal from the Lin bus.

It is a common problem and an easy DIY fix. Go to you tube and do a search, there are several instructional videos showing how. There is a resistor that comes un soldered inside the unit from heat. IN fact I believe there is a thread here if you do a search.

Simply taking the unit apart and soldering the resistor down will fix the issue. Mine did it, but the resistor fell out and was lost when I took my unit apart. (they are TINY resistors). It cost me 13 cents at a local electronics store to buy a traditional barrel type resistor that I soldered back in place. Works fine now.

Yes again I am aware of the fix... Mine has broken 3 times, the last time it was non repairable.... I'm not going to buy a new one... I have purchased and installed a new mirror, everything works except for temp readout. Due to what I assume is a difference in output from the Lin bus.
