I was just out looking at the bumper on my 2011 2wd. No way I would put more than a few hundred pound lawn mower trailer on that bumper. I could twist the whole rig with my hands, which is part of the function of the bumper - to protect the body by sacrificing itself.

Trailer hitch is the way to go IMHO.

Toyota dealer can supply the OEM hitch. You can have them install it or just bolt it up yourself.

the bumper can only handle 500lbs I would never in my life unless it was a wood chipper or something tiny and I was only driving a few feet up the road and had no other option to hook to the bumper. the bumper is like 4 or 6 bolts holding it on a few good trailer grabs would pull it right off. buying one class 3 or more is easy enough to install think it took me one my first truck 30 mins first time every doing it. just running the OEM trailer plug is the annoying part
