Wanted one for front and rear locker with rubicon. Hated how small interior was and how it sat. Tacoma was next more room, and got an off road and settled for only rear locker.

I wanted to drive it, not fix it and I wanted a bed.

I've had a Wrangler, and I was considering getting a Jeep again, especially because it offers manual transmission. But I went with a taco because I was coming from an FJ, and wanted more room. Like room to stretch out in the bed. Even though the taco bed is only five feet, I can sleep in it diagonally. Reliable and able 4x4 with manual trans plus bed, taco was it.

Had a 2001 Wrangler Sport, it was amazing., never leaked a drop, great vehicle. Later ended up with a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited, both the hard top and soft top leaked constantly. If I turned the steering wheel all the way to the left or right, the dash lit up like a Christmas tree. Sold it after 6 months.

The reliability of the Tacoma combined with having a truck bed, can't beat it.

I've had 3. Just got rid of a JK Rubi Unlimited with a long arm lift and 37x13.50 Nitto Mud Graps. Only problem with a Jeep, it's a Chrysler. At 100K miles, things get interesting. Also, the new vehicles have to many things going on in regards to electronics. My horn would beep randomly after a torrential downpour. You can't beat the view on a warm night though with the doors and top off.

I was debating between a Wrangler and Taco. Wife said get the Jeep, and when the new Taco comes out, I'll take the Jeep. So, I win, win! I bought a '15 Rubicon Hard Rock. After I sell my Toy Hauler, I'm getting a new Taco. :)

I don't know too much about them and have never owned one, but i have begun to notice that there are a lot more jeeps of all types then Tacos out here on the west coast. any advice on the best yr/ model is appreciated.

I had a 2013 Rubicon and it was a nice vehicle, but as many have posted, i needed more utility (bed.) Wouldn't mind having one as a second vehicle, but for DD not a great vehicle. Mine was lifted with 35's getting a solid 12mpg.

I never considered a Jeep, in 18 years of driving a Tacoma it has never put me on the side of the road, with it`s reliability I saw no need to change.

I always liked the Jeep for offroad use only. I could never found it comfortable to drive for daily use. The seating position is awkward as hell. And there is Alot of body flex for daily driving. There finally making a permanent hard top. Plus also I wanted a truck. But I hear jeep is making a truck now so who knows probably just a Dakota with a new body.

I would never own one. But I can appreciate how well they work offroad, especially with the huge aftermarket support. My brother-in-law and I go out together fairly often.

I has an Isuzu Amigo with a half soft top. Only thing close to a Jeep I've ever owned. It was a fun and tough little buggy.

Negative, the interior changed in 2011 and the drive train didn't change until 2012. It went from the 202hp 12v 3.8l to the 285hp 24v 3.6l which was night and day better on power but the longevity I have no idea cause we traded it in with 15k on it. I do have to say the hold their value very strongly though, we got almost what we paid for it on trade.

I'd get an Audi S5 over a Wrangler. The S5 has more utility value and is better in the snow.

I went from a 2013 JKUR back to a Tacoma. Prefer the ride and utility of the Tacoma. Did not like the mud on the rear fenders thrown by the front wheels getting on you whenever getting in the rear doors. Quality was fine in the short time I had it.

Get both! And you'll never have any extra money! Recently sold our TJ since we had another baby on the way. I've had 5 different jeeps, 2 different Tacomas and an FJ. For off-roading and fun my 2012 Rubicon was the best.
    ImageUploadedByTapatalk1458395978.613166.jpg

17,000 miles of off-road and non stop driving fun and never had a problem. Hated my 2007 and 2008 but as Manofsteele said previously they had the 3.8L motor. It was garbage.

I think it just depends on what you want to do. They are two very different vehicles even though they always seem to be put up against each other. Solid axles vs. IFS. Truck vs. non-truck. We picked up a 2015 DCSB TRD OR and look forward to modifying it for some over landing camping trips. The jeep wouldn't have been as fun being a 2-door for stuff like this. On 37's and about 3 hours of driving it got tiresome. And loud. Nobody in my family minded so it wasn't a serious issue.

Drive both for a day. Decide then. Love them both.

    Workin' on it....
Test drove a 2 door jeep -- way to cramped for my liking especially for any road trips or extended travel. I love my Tacoma.....
