2017. What would be the benefit of waiting for the final release? More stability, extra features, etc. Trying to determine the pros/cons of flashing now and potentially having to flash again in the future when the 2.0 final is released, versus just flashing once now and calling it good.

If you want to only flash once, then I would say wait. The final version will have a base tune, performance, GL and a tow mode. Whereas what is available now is really just what people have done on their own while we wait for final. I say it will be out soon, but the original potential release date was Christmas of last year so who knows.

Gear lock is the main thing. If you dont care for gear lock, you are good with what’s currently released. It’s still way better than the stock tune.

I'd also be highly interested in paying someone to OV Tune my truck - moved here a few months ago and 70 has me thinking about a Tundra the way the truck struggles.

if you are a '16 or '17 AT and want to have the ECU updated to 04B04 you need the -18 TSB to get there. the -16 TSB takes you to 04B03.

Would it be beneficial for my new 2021 to get flashed? Or will it already have the newest TSB that makes it okay? Im clueless about this tech crap.

    edit. Also in Denver area.

not sure that the Tune is available for your ECU yet. Also helps to know if you are AT or MT. The vFTuner thread and the Performance and Tuning thread have more information and may help you decide on Tuning and what Tune you think may be best for your driving style (gears, tires, towing...)

so you are 04B04 - John or I can take care of you. Honestly the current VFTuner Tunes are way better than the non-performance 2.0 releases. Just need to know if you are stock gears, tires size, tow, agm - that is about it.

Would this flash update the MPG gauge with larger tires?

Stock drivetrain AFAIK. Tires are 265/75R16 which as far as I can determine is larger than stock?

Dumb question. Why tune vs. say going with the pedal commander? It seems like the pedal commander is just a bandaid fix for throttle response but it is pretty straight forward. I've been peeking in over on the 3rd Gen OVF thread and it seems... complicated to manage. Am I making a bigger deal out of getting a tune than I should be?

The pedal commander basically just modifies the pedal input to increase or decrease the percentage that goes to the ECU. So say 25% through turns into 40% or 25% turns into 10%.

Tuning actually fixes many of the issues with the factory calibration. On an automatic, the shift logic has been completely rewritten and performs much more like people would expect. There is also a noticeable increase in low end power (especially on the MT).

I’d definitely recommend spending money on the tune over a pedal commander. Tuning isn’t super complicated and with the release of vF tuner, you have the option of either buying the kit and doing it yourself or finding someone willing to tune your truck for you.

Thanks for the feedback on this. My concerns were that people were talking about changing shift points and all sorts of other configurable settings and I just don't have the mind set to mess with all of that with any level of confidence. Do you know if there are standard settings that most people go with vs. needing to tweak all of the values?

No. MPGs and speedo are not affected.

Most people just use the off the shelf 2.0 tune. Some people have modified for their personal driving habits or truck configuration.

pedal commander is a piggy-back. Tune is a total rewrite of the fueling, shifting, timing, air-load,......... - IMO because I never had or used a Peddal Commander I can't speak for it = but having used the Tune for several years I can say it makes the entire truck perform like you would expect and unlike the Peddal Commander you don't have to worry about it shitting the bed somewhere along your trip leaving you back to square one. I'd do the tune 100%. JMO. BTW - I did run the Shift Sense (which I sold) - it was good for shifting but that was it.

DM @johntoyota or me - You will think you have an entirely different truck when it comes to drivability (acceleration, shifting, performance). Some really good tunes available that make stock seem like the dog it is. I'm in Golden - John is in Littleton.

I had my pedal commander shit the bed on me on a long trip and was so disappointed. I really want it on one of these tunes. Anyone have a rough idea what this would cost?
