In 2016 I drove me and my (now gf of 3 years) date up st. marys glacier in my 03 4runner. My runner had a 1in lift and some Ko2s but that was it and that road was fucking crazy to get up. We spent the night at the top because it was a "super moon" and were still able to see lights from denver. Pretty cool place to go off roading from what I remember.

It's off of fall river rd from I-70, just passed Idaho springs.

Anyone been up there recently? How's the road? Pics?

The reason we went up there was because her childhood house was on the way up on the that road. Her dad built it himself in the late 90s.

I double checked via COTREX... vehicles aren't allowed to St. Mary's lake and glacier. Foot traffic only.

Given that, are you sure you drove to the actual glacier? May it have been something else in that area? From the town of Alice/St. Mary's, there are a few vehicle roads ("trails") which go up higher. You can go to Loch Lomand, up to Kingston Peak and into the Yankee Hill area... and if you peel off Fall River road before St. Mary's, then there's other areas to visit (Chinn's Lake, Fall River Reservoirs, other routes into Yankee Hill, etc.).

I’m not exactly sure if you’re asking a question or reminiscing about your girlfriend/(ex)girlfriend?

Honestly I'm not sure, there was no marked trails or roads so we just kept driving until we were about on the top of a peak, with a small alpine lake prbly a half mile away in the distance?

Along the Kingston Peak route, you have views of Loch Lomond from one spot, and views of James Peak lake and Little Echo lake at another. It's a nice area. I fished all three this year. :)

Back to your question... if you're interested in its condition right now, it is impassible per a report posted yesterday ( ). If you're asking in general, the climb in from St. Mary's is still challenging in spots.
