I'm chilling at the dealer right now.

Came in for my 2016 TRD Off Road 10k Oil change and to complain about the stupid shifting flares.

They did the oil change and when I hopped in it to drive away it got a Crank Position Sensor code and Traction light.

    They are Diagnosing it now

Things to get me in over my head
So Just picked up rig on Saturday. Drove it the two hours home. 17 DCSB OR MT It seems to hesitate in the mid throttle, 20-60% Range. WOT is fine and cruising is fine. Nothing crazy, but... At first I chalked it up to a new computer adapting to its world, and me being a new Tacoma owner. After 175 miles, its still there, no evident codes. Anyones rig exhibit similar symptoms before they got any warning lights, CEL?

    Thanks
    Morgan

My TRDOR production date was May of 2016. talked to dealer. he said that the CPS issue was resolved by time my truck was put together. so I'm guessing your CPS is OK too?

My truck died on me a few weeks ago driving down the freeway. I had it towed to the dealer but they let it sit overnight and weren't able to recreate the issue after having it for 3 days. The issue never happened again but I ended up just buying a new sensor and replacing it myself. The new sensor was a different part number from the original although the original did have that round mark on it that others have said is only on the new ones.

    First of all, nice avatar.
Second, it amazes me that these trucks don't store fault codes. I'd assume the truck would throw a code for your issue. I can't see why in this day and age a dealer would even need to see it fail anymore.

It did throw two codes. One for low fuel pressure and one for a misfire I think. But they weren't able to narrow it down off just those codes. I did see in another thread that someone had the same codes so I'm pretty confident that was the issue.

They did the 2nd version of the full drivetrain ecu Flash upgrade and It went away. I am not too confident because that would obviously erase the codes. I guess we will see if it strands me.

FYI: CPS is only covered by 36K warranty.

I have been Jed to believe my CPS pooped out last night. There was no indication that it was going to go either. I stopped at a light and when the light changed to green, the truck sputtered, had no power and eventually stalled. The multi-information display stated the transmission was too hot. I tried to start the truck to no avail. I called for a tow and by the time the truck arrived, my truck had started and appeared to be fine. I towed it to the local dealership and they said it was the CPS. It's under warranty so let's see if the CPS is in fact the culprit.

And the horror continues. Summer is around the corner which means more CPS fails ahead.

If you all ever leave cell service in your trucks, you had better pack a spare cps. I do.

The drama brings itself. You know these CPS issues are a common issue.

    I know two things.
1.that I replaced mine by myself last year to the revised part to avoid any problems.
    2. You don't own or plan to own a 3rd gen taco and your posts are all related to criticizing the vehicle. And people can draw their own conclusions on the type of person who does that.

    1. You spent your own money as a preventative action due to known issues.
    2. You are absolutely correct.

Hope it does not happen on the 17s at all.
