Absolutely love my MT. Only gripe is that damned reverse. Never bothered me, until I recently purchased my side by side and trailer. Now, backing up with roughly 2200lbs is a pain in the ass, and sadly the first times I've stalled my truck driving it. :( last few times backing it into my driveway, I've put it in 4-Low just so I don't stall, and able to crawl it into place. Shame I have to do that, but thankfully it's not an all the time thing.

What octane fuel is everyone running in the 3.5L 6MT? I'm running 89 and averaging maybe a little over 15 if I keep it under 70mph. I live in hilly WV which takes the toll of getting exceptionally good gas mileage.

I use 87 and driving 65mph Max on mostly flat and mild inclines gets me 21+mpg. Do you have all stock equipment?

I got 25.6 today, AT trans. I have no idea how I pulled that off. Must be a glitch in the matrix

I have 285 tires, everything else looks to be stock, bought the truck used a month ago.

I did this on 87 back in February just prior to installing OVT:

    IMG_20190218_145654.jpg

My computer used to consistently give numbers that were 0.5mpg too high. So, subtract a bit from that.

My typical MPGs in the hilly Seattle area are below.

It's those MTs and the hills. I've tried 87 to 93 and E0 gas as well. Unless you're running a tune to take advantage of different octane, it's all butt dyno and people laying off the throttle to get different results (that they'd replicate with 87 if they drove the same way).

Does anyone elses clutch fully engage too damn high?

My truck has 15k, but by the feel of the friction point youd think it had 200k and almost rady to slip.

It starts lightly grabbing around 80% up and past 1st gear it feels like it only fully engages literally at the very top of the pedal travel travel. I can barely press it lightly about 1-2 inches in and shift gears.

It does not slip and still chirps tires, but the engagement feels so damn high. I have checked adjustment and its within the specs on the manual.

I did have the tsb done for the clutch pedal squeak and i dont recall how the pedal felt before that lol. Driving me nuts.

Too high of an engage point, all things being equal, means that you have a lot of friction material left. Nowhere close to slipping. Although, hydraulic clutches are self adjusting and the engage point should not move around over time.

Typically if you don't recall the situation before the TSB and are noticing it now, that would lead me to believe there was a change.

If the engagement was low on the travel, I would guess that there is air in the lines. If you checked the travel, there is not much else that you can do other than giving it more gap to the master cylinder shaft, but that will give you a clicking noise.

Exactly, I tried the increasing the gap in the master cylinder rod, and while changing the grabbing point, it did cause the annoying click which you can also feel in your foot so I went back to the spec in the manual. People who have driven my truck always tend to slip the clutch a bit too muc at shift since the friction point is so high.

I now drive with my seat further back than necessary because if I go close enough to the pedals where I can too easily press the clutch pedal, it feels almost like and on of switch, with ON only being the top inch of travel.

That being said i have gotten used to it and can drive it smoothly, but I was worried that my clutch was toast a bit early lol.

I recently drove an OR that felt like that and also had an incredibly stiff clutch. The dealership had done a couple TSBs. If yours is anything like that, I feel for you. I can see how that could give you and others trouble.

Is there another dealer that you could take it to to have the work looked at? I like that our master cylinder was upgraded to metal over the 2nd Gen, but it is unfortunate that there are no real adjustments and there is no aftermarket support yet.

My clutch effort is not very stiff actually. I dont recall that changing post tsb. Same as always. Its only the friction point which is very high in the pedal travel.

There is a test in the manual where it tells you to lightly hold thr shifter against the reverse synchro, then start pressing the clutch in until the gear noise stops or it goes into gear. Mine seems to be within spec, Which is the distance from the floor board to the bottom of the pedal.

Also at drive throughs next to a wall, I can hear my clutch make a shhhhhh or rubbing/friction noise at about 50% pedal travel, so maybe it just could be how the clutch in this truck actually engages.

I guess we will see in a few more years how it holds up. I dont even rev to get into first if i dont have to. The programming toyota has done with the idle makes it act a bit like a diesel when slipping the clutch into 1st. It just adds throttle by itself.

Could it have had air in the lines from the assemly line? Maybe lol. The dealer did say that they bled it ALOT.

I run primarily 90 non ethanol and that is not available I don't go below 89 octane.

That is good to hear. He had multiple issues going on. I felt bad for him.

There might have been air in from the start, esp as we have a weird path that seems to go over the motor to right side, then back again.

    a1_313016B.jpg

That does sound like a wide friction zone on yours. It might be worth bleeding?

Maybe you are not used to the clutch accumulator? Try letting the clutch out very slowly and you should have a better feel of what the clutch is doing inside the Trans. For me in somedays the clutch fees very slippery and other days the clutch feels very tight and tuned in.

Yes, some days it feels like its better and others it feels like its about to slip lol.

Seems to also change as the truck warms up.

Its worth a shot to bleed it again. Il give it a try.

Indeed the friction zone feels very wide. Although the truck only starts to move at the very top of pedal travel.

My accumulator experience was that it was consistently shitty. What you just said would make me believe there is still air in the lines? Given the design and small areas, I can see the accumulator making harder to bleed.

Air would generally have engagement near the floor, but a wide, moving friction zone smacks of air in there.
