I have this too... I also feel like it's the torque converter, not catching up with the tranny at speed... seems like this thread shows alot of OR's that are doing it as well... I wonder if it has something to do with the software that the tranny has for crawl, etc... where its not effecting the other models as much??
I will have the dealer also look at it... I hope its something that they can address and not do anything, and give me the " they all drive like that"...

I have a slight "clunk" at stops now and then. Nothing I'm alarmed about. Mine's an SR5 V6 4WD.

My G8, sorry. The Taco I leave in ECT except on the highway. Shifts 10x better in ECT mode in my opinion

Agreed it isn't there when I use the ECT.

The service advisor finally called me back and said the tranny was a little low and filled it to the correct level. I will get this in writing. The bump is still there so I have another appointment set for next week.

Also I put about 3/4 of a tank of 93 gas in it and I think its just my mind but it feels better!

Its part of the ECU adaptive learning . First thing to do is learn how your transmission works and how it learns .
2nd thing to do is check the transmission fluid which should be the first thing to do as well .
3rd thing to do is disconnect the battery and start the relearn procedure over with your foot into the gas this time.
If this doesnt stop the shudder , do like others and drive in ECT mode .
If this doesnt stop the shudder , wait until Toyota releases the flash .

This question pops up every week .

Good to hear! I had the fluid checked and the dealer stated it was about a half or 1/4 quart low. Got that filled and it does feel a tad better but still has the shudder. It almost feels like a miss fire.

I'm trying the whole disconnect the battery thing and driving more aggressively to see if that helps. I'll keep you posted.

Bueller, Bueller, I already explained what the issue is. No amount of driving Is going to resolve the issue until there is a reprogram

Post 7. It's the trans being in too high of a gear due to programming. Has nothing to do with converter or misfire

Yes, I can see that theory being very true! Either way this is bull crap! I want it fixed and without effecting gas millage. (which I know it probably will). What I don't understand is this "master tech" at Toyota not being able to give a definitive answer.

Certain GMs do the same thing and my day job is a GM "master tech".

Do you GM guys see any crankshaft end journal wear due to the bucking / lugging . Just wondering what kind of ill effects Tacoma owners are going to see down the road after these engines get a bunch of mileage on them . What kind of compensation was done to the engine to allow such a load up ?
Its rather upsetting that " WE " as owners have to suffer the driveability issues involved in order for a vehicle manufacturer to meet the necessary Epa .
With this said , I have a wired fix that will delay upshifts to 6th gear and keep the converter unlocked until you want it to lock . I just have to get around the programming . So far all my efforts continue to throw codes

I don't see much for end play or journal wear. But do see excessive timing chain stretch in many applications. Whether it's related to the bucking I have no idea.

I feel what I would call minor bucking while accelerating through about 20-30 MPH. I feel it every time during slow to moderate acceleration. It's like the engine is misfiring, but not nearly as dramatic. It only occurs in one gear. I'm guessing its 4th gear. It does not occur during very low RPMs. I suspect this sensation is the same as some others on this thread are feeling. I have an SR5.

I'm still experiencing this shudder and it's super annoying. I'm surprised with the amount of people feeling this that there isn't more fuss about it.

I took mine in for the 5000 mile service and complained again. The tech is saying that it's the Atkinson cycle switching between the injections.

I'm still thinking it's the shift points and a transmission flash will fix it as driving in ECT mode it's hardly noticeable.

Either way this is BS. Maybe I'm overreacting but mine is really bad. I made a call Toyota corporate and opened a ticket with them. They want me to take it to another dealer and see if they can find something wrong.

Here is the write up from my dealer today.

My 2nd gen had similar characteristics, likely less noticeable with the larger v6 and one less gear. I'm so happy to be back to a manual gearbox.

I am at 3000 miles and I feel the slight bump when stopped...I have list of laundry list when I go in for 5k service:

    • Driver window rattles when its few inches rolled down?
    • Rear windows tends to not shut tight, I always have to hit the switch when done with driving?
    • ECT light doesn't come on the dash?
    • Driver side air bag dash has some white residue, once every two weeks I wipe it down but it comes back?
    • With temp changes in Colorado, my windshield appears to have condensation/ freeze on the inside of the cab as if there water sipping in?

I went to the Dealer few weeks ago to pick up few items, there were 4-5 Tacoma in their service bay...I wonder how many of those had issues similar to what has been discussed on this forum.
