^I'm interested to see what I get with mine. I got 23mpg on the same trip to NJ that I'm about to take next Saturday only this time with the tonneau.

I usually average 18.5 mpg. In my V6 4.0 DC Short Bed 4X4, that includes Hwy and City. However, I can’t wait to see what I get now that I removed the secondary filter and installed a drop in K&N.

Not quite 20, but I managed basically 19 on my first tank running 87. This was roughly 50/50 mixed driving with a very light foot as I'm still breaking it in. I'm happy with that and I expect that getting over 20 will definitely be possible by the time I have more miles on it and we get into summer . . . that's 20 if I can keep my foot out of it of course :D

I'm also going to run 91 so we'll see how the mileage responds.

None currently, but I would like a better sounding exhaust and perhaps a cold air pack and some color coded step bars
Perhaps I should take out the secondary filter and use an aftermarket. Is there a sticky on that?
I can get 20 on my 6spd on a trip but thats it, no way would I get 22mpg at any point.

I'm getting 21-22mpg. consistently on highway. K&N air filter and Flowmaster 50 series muffler. I always take the tailgate off on highway trips and this has proven to help mpg. a slight amount, so I would think that having a t cover would definitely decrease the drag. And it depends greatly on how fast you drive--The lower the rpm's, the better the gas mileage.

This statement says it all if you stay under 70 then your good. these trucks are not known for there arodynamics. Once im over 75 you really have to start pushing on the gas.

sorry to bump another fuel economy thread, I know this is beaten territory, but man.....:(

I read/lurked a ton of these threads in the last month before buying my latest Taco -> '06 AC 4X4 V6 6speed with ~68k miles on it (previously had a 2001 I4 4x4).
I was psyched to see so many people doing well on fuel and figured I'd get similar performance, but I'm not even close.

first ~+1,000miles, all highway, all cruise control, all 60-65mph and almost every tank has been ~15mpg, one was 14.5mpg! My best has been 16.3mpg.
That's not even ballpark to what most are reporting here, even the supposed "lead foots".....!?

and this was before I put on the winter tires, it's just going to get worse now that I've got soft tires on there.

All the air/exhaust/gas mods in the world won't give me a 30% increase in mpg, and I can't drive that much slower than the posted 65mp speed limit.

    ugh.

    /whining.

Do a few simple things like check the tire pressure. Maybe inflate them 1-2 lbs more than stock. When was your last tune up? Oil and spark plugs? What brand and what octane gas are you using? Are you on stock wheels and tires? Is your air filter dirty?
I just got my first 22mpg tank last night. Looking forward to reaching 23-24mpg soon.

If I keep the speed between 55 and 65, and I go easy on the accelerator, I can get 22-24 mpg regularly.

If I push it up to 75-80, that drops to 16-18 mpg. Aerodynamics is a harsh mistress...

I tested my average mileage a while back and I came out with about 17.5 overall so I must be getting close to 20 highway. However I do know that it will drop at higher speeds so I keep it at 65 mph. The bigger question is, has anyone checked the accuracy of their odometers? in 2006 Honda got caught with odometers that were racking on miles faster than actual and they had to extend warranties and lease allowances by 5%. This would certainly give the appearance of better fuel mileage. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe that gov. gudelines allow for up to 2% speedo/odo error for a vehicle to remain in compliance.

    Too few to list.
I get 20mpg on winter gas! 2nd tank so far and I still get over 20mpg on 80% hwy, 20 % street with a 6spd DC 4x4. Driving at 55mph really helps the mileage.
