I ordered Magnuson supercharger and I'm considering swapping out the gear with the nitro gear. Has anyone added both of these modifications? Is it worth it to do both?

My truck is 2021 TRD Off Road with TRD pro wheels and tires- P265/70R16, stock suspension but will be upgrading to FOX 2.5 shocks and coilovers with Icon leaf springs, not overlanding or any extra weight in back regularly, but plan on getting 5000-6000lb (gross weight) travel trailer and living full time out of it for a while so I will be towing it regularly.

    What truck do you have?

    1st gen?
    2nd gen?
    3rd gen?

what year? What transmission (auto or manual)?

All stock? (Tire size, wheels, suspension)
Heavily loaded up Overland AF? (Heavy steel skids, bumpers, 37” tires,…)

You have provided no useful information for us to help you with an answer.

Careful, once you pass the event horizn in mods, there's no going back...it sucks you in.

Typically with trucks, gearing is done when you go up a tire size. There is a tire/gear calc here that does a good job helping you decide ratios.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/tirecalc

I am supercharged with 4.88's nitros on 35" tires which is a near-stock ratio and setup for speed not crawling.

Ouch. If you weren’t towing, I’d say stay stock, but…. Not towing with a 3rd gen.

@GoldenBrew ever tow with your blown 3rd gen?

Kind of seems like you got the wrong truck for “regularly towing” a 5000-6000 pound trailer.

I've never towed that much weight with my own truck. So I can't say what towing that much weight would feel like, but 2000-2200+ lbs on mine (now that it's suspension built and boosted) is no problem. I can't even tell it's back there.

+2500 with a trailer and +500 camper on the back I don't feel on the supercharged 2nd gen. stock gearing, automatic, 32" tires.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CKFbYZinNvi/

I drove halfway across the country in my 1st gen V6, automatic with a ~3500lb trailer and that sucked. I can't imagine trying to tow 6000lbs (plus fresh/grey water, propane, extra fuel, et al) with any Tacoma.

I guess when you have V8 power it really changes the towing abilities of it. That plus putting real suspension on the truck of course. It's all relevant when it comes to towing and really puts the overall build on the frame to the test.

It just changes how fast you can tow, not it’s capabilities. I tow a 4K lbs trailer loaded with a Magnuson, stock gearing and 33’s.

Oh well yeah, obviously. What kind of suspension do you run on yours or is it stock?

That sounds like a solid setup. A lot better than the stock marshmallows for shocks.

How does it tow with that weight on it? I'm sure you know something is back there but it can't feel like an absolute ton.

Tow a lot. My camper loaded is about 3000 lbs so not real heavy. No issues for power with the SC when towing - 10x better than when it was NA. Set-up listed below my pic and running stock tires.
Just did a trip to WY and back - about 1000 miles of highway speeds 65-70 mph. Used S mode and averaged 16 mpg. When not towing and in D mode that would be more like 20 mpg which is what I average for combined city/local/highway. The SC made driving enjoyable - except Magnuson still needs to fix the shifting logic - I came from OVTune which had a near perfect shifting logic but little noticeable additional power. Eventually this will get fixed.

I adjust the dampers +8 clicks and it does very good. Truck previously had 5100’s and 5160’s and was always stiff. You know the trailer is there but it handles it just fines

Here's a post I made talking about towing a pretty heavy trailer (5000#) a couple hundred miles in my 2nd gen DCSB. I also own a full size GMC Sierra 1500 which is my main tow rig.

My biggest complaint about towing with the Tacoma is lack of fuel range. I get under 200 miles per tank when towing. That makes any road trip kinda annoying to stop so frequently to fuel up b/c of the hassle to fill the tank when towing something. If you are gonna be road tripping frequently while towing, I would recommend getting a different truck with a longer fuel range.

The Magnuson helps in that aspect but not considerably. Just looked at fuelly and my longest towing tank was 235 miles.

    Oh, another glaring issue:
You're going to want to upgrade to probably LT load range E tires that can support all that tongue weight you're going to be adding with a 6000 pound trailer. Ones that you can pump up to almost 50psi or more.

For fuel range, you can get a 32 gallon tank:

And for this, the Icons won't likely cut it. You'll probably need air bags or a Hellwig helper spring (if they even make them for a Tacoma).
