I'm debating between sizes and brands...

    60"x24" or 48"x20"......do I want it 5' wide or 4' wide?

    And what brand is good?

Go with bigger one.you could always mount lights on the rack and plug into trailer plug as extra safety

I have one that I bought at Lowes. It came in two pieces, the reciever part and the rack. I secured it with grade 8 bolts then welded it together. Not sure about the size, but I wrapped it in red/white reflective tape to the stupid people can see it...

Smart idea with the reflective tape. Some a-hole bent my hitch step recently, but I did put it there to protect my bumper some.

Harbor Freights sells a couple different ones. One is aluminum & the other steel. You might want to look as they always have big specials.

I have one but I don't use it on the Taco, well not yet.
It was a cheaper one and it is open on the inside so no rails like the ones you posted, but it does have rails on the back side. I have been very happy with it.
Not sure the size. It is rated at 150 lbs.

Think about the license plate visibility also along with the tail lights.
We used one when we had a Denali and were transporting hockey bags and kids to tournaments.

No way were the stinky bags riding inside with me!!!

Good eye...thanks! There are several that are 48" and fit the 2" receiver. I'm just trying to decide if I want 48" or 60".

I think I want the 60" but do worry that my brake lights and license plate will be covered. A couple offer light kits and plate brackets as well (for an extra cost of course). It's why I'm asking others that have experience with these.

I will use it for a beach trip to the Outer Banks (8hr drive). I plan to put beach chairs, umbrellas, kids toys, etc on it.

I have a cheaper one I bought years ago. I don't use it very often but it does come in handy. I put some reflective tape across the back of it. I don't put more than a couple of hundred pounds in it. Usually stuff like coolers and things like that. It will block your tail lights if you have it loaded up a lot. It will also block your license plate, I've never had problem with the cops but it could be an issue.

i use mine for the same purpose (OBX - going aug 14-21 4x4 beaches). i put 2 big ass coolers on it and fill them with shit then when i get there i empty them and fill them with beer. i think mine is 48 wide. good enough. i got it for like $60 at harbor freight. be careful going over dunes, whoops, and on the beach, they do stick out and i whacked mine a few times so shes a little bent

Awesome...we're staying in North Corolla - just 2 blocks from the 4x4 beach. But I plan to drive up there in the taco. It's the furthest north we've been in obx.

Anyway, I read some good reviews on the Harbor Freight models and went to check them out last night. I ended up buying the aluminum one because it's lighter and easier to install and store. Paid $80 after a 20% off coupon.

I started putting it together last night and am very pleased with the build quality. I haven't put it on the truck yet but will snap some pictures to close this thread with once I do.

I decided against the HF nylon bag and am getting a heavier one from Amazon for a few dollars more.
