I had the same issue with a 2014 4runner and Toyota refused to fix under warranty. This truck was driven about 200 miles on Saturday then parked in garage overnight. Came out Sunday and saw this. It is obvious that is from heat. But I cannot find the source. Taking to the dealer in the morning. The truck was in last week for the 10k service.

It's odd to have it happen on one vehicle, let alone 2 of them. You either have really bad luck, or something happening in your garage.

Hopefully the dealer doesn't blame you for it and say that it must've happened when you replaced your grill.

If it weren't for bad luck I wouldn't have any luck. The 4runner was being parked in the driveway when it happened.

Is there possibly something reflecting the sun to that particular spot that caused it to happen to both your vehicles?

I'd swap the grill of the one that came with the truck before they blame it on the pro grill

Anything coolant system related contacting the underside of that portion of the grill surround?

Like I said I cannot find anything under or surrounding that would be a heat source.

Well just from my perspective the picture looks like it has some black marks as if a torch or heat gun was directly pointed at it. Maybe your step son doesnt like you lol.

But in all reality the delaership is gonna say your sol and say something in your garage etc caused it. Like mentioned above something reflective.

Put your old grille back in and cross your fingers.

Seriously, track the movement of sun reflecting off windows and other objects. I have seen strange combinations of sun reflection bouncing off multiple windows etc in certain times of the year when the sun is at the correct angle get hot enough to kill grass.

From the dealer's perspective, it didn't leave the factory like that. Some external source caused it to loose it's form. Unless it deforms at normal
everyday temperatures, it would be hard to prove that a defect in manufacturing caused the issue. Toyota only pays to repair manufacturing defects,
whether in material, or workmanship. It's entirely possible that you got 2 very rare occurrences, but exceedingly unlikely. You should buy a lottery ticket.

I've been with Toyota for over a decade, and can't remember ever seeing something like that.

This being said, I hope they can cover it as a one time goodwill, or customer satisfaction type deal.
