Anyone leave their bed open year round?

I drilled a waterproof military type storage box to the bed and it's done well for keeping all my stuff dry. Its secure and sits perfectly below the bed line so it's also unnoticeable unless you're looking into the bed

I had the 2.0 solid tri-fold, absolutely love. its made my job even more easier by just storage all of my tools in bed without get them soak by rain. Worth my buck and save some my mileage fuel too.

 

on side note- 2.0 tri-fold will leak a bit during long term of heavy rain. but its not big deal to me since its only a fair small amount of water get into bed.

 

It's been proven that bed covers actually hurt gas mileage over an open bed. Over the years, Car and Driver and a few other vehicle testers have tested it and have always shown a drop in mpgs with bed covers.

 

Same with removing the tail gate. Also makes the gas mileage worse

 

@NYCTaco52 yes you are right, it would usually get drop MPGs during in city and short drives, but the long drives does show a noticeable gain fair amount of MPGs

 

City shown very small differences. They said highway drives were what took the biggest hit with bed covers

Thats really interesting.... so it would be any different if it depend on people's driving style? or just because of the bed fold and lower tailgate?

 

I read it has to do with the aerodynamics of how trucks are designed. Basically as air travels over the cab, it flows back over the tailgate and not into the bed like most people think. So changing that dynamic by removing the tailgate or adding a bed cover, causes the air to rust down instead of back and over. Which causes more drag

 

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... its actually made me thinking twice...... Thanks bro!!! I'll keep that in my mind, but at least it made all of my tools more safer during my class and everywhere I going.
