I’ve been wanting to take my flares off and was wondering if there’s anything out there to put in the holes were the clips are like some spikes or something make it look different

I know this is an old thread but saw it when trying to find pics of Tacoma’s with the fender flares removed. After watching a video where a set was removed from what looked like a real clean truck…the area behind the flares was rotted thru in places. I’ll be making a set roughly the same width, sticking out, as the old ones and may fill the body holes where the clips were later on. For now I used 8mm x 1 inch bolts…which doesn’t look terrible but a smooth look would probably be more appealing. It’s also not as noticeable on dark colored vehicles. Carriage bolts would also work and a rubber washer behind them is probably a good idea, esp if flares are going to be left off permanently. If anyone decides to do this it’s very cheap and takes minimal time. I’ve got a total of less than $5 in it now. The back 8 on the bedsides you can get to all by hand but the front takes more time. The bottom 4 clips holding the fender liner in have to be removed, none of which came out easy. Once those are out you can reach the first 3 or 4 by hand but unless you removed the entire fender liner you’ll need to do something like this, I used a coat hanger to fish the nuts up to the last remaining 2-3 holes. The front two can also be done by hand.

Anyway, if anyone is curious this is what I used and what it looks like after. Also, after removing the bottom 4 clips you can see how much debris was trapped behind the fender. This is the first time these have been removed so that’s 15 years worth of crap. The coat hanger is also good to get the debris out and a shop vac will get the rest.
