Wouldn't driving fast in the desert allow more air to cool the engine compartment and allow the radiator to cool it better than driving at a top speed of 10 mph? Desert racing and east coast rock crawling aren't necessarily comparable... But I'm no expert, just something that I thought should be mentioned.

I hope coltstrd doesn't freak out at me...... :D

Any other examples? Perhaps on a Tacoma, and not posted by a vendor selling the product?

Hi Chris! I've decided I'm going to drive around without a hood. It will keep my engine super:cool: and allow my CAI to give me even more than 12 HP :burnrubber:

My thoughts.....Opening it up to allow for heat to be removed is pointless. After a nice run in my truck, and letting the engine sit for 10 mins. (Plenty to allow for heat soak), the engine temp was 208*. After start up, within 5 seconds, it was down to 183*. Given the amount of opening already there, the gap between the hood, fenders, and cowling, I think there is plenty of room for heat to escape the engine bay. Being as the hottest components are at the front (radiator), and sides ( Exhaust manifolds), opening the center where the engine is the coolest (Fance plastic "hat", and intake plumbing), IMHO, wont give any significant benafits.

..... Did you even think before you wrote that?..... What engine does an FJ carry?.... They have 2 options....... Dual and Single VVT-i varying on the year.... but...... it's the SAME ENGINE!.... 4.0l so the gain is there for that motor....

It's a dyno curve... so the power increases as the rpms progres.... I guess you aren't much of a performance junkie are ya?....

OOOOOO So that means it must be right  because you know every single motor is the exact same.... some motors will gain 1-2 hp while others can gain up 10+..... it's been dyno proven but they take an average of multiple tests and that is how they get there average....

Ha you answered your own question about me in one single post. Every engine is a little different. And seeing as how the Tacoma and FJ are not the same vehicle (different gearing and awd drivetrain, etc) all I asked for was an example on a Tacoma. Because every dyno for a Tacoma I've seen shows absolutely no power increase with an intake.

Tests have been done time and time again...thats why the majority of us just get After Market drop in filters....cause the same power results come from it
