    Dang if I had less 'life-things' going on I'd drive that car to wherever you are going - I live nearby and would welcome
    the road-trip, camera in hand...

    You bought a Tacoma to specifically tow a car around the country....continuously....and you thought this was a good idea???

    U-Haul won't rent out car trailers unless you've got a 1 ton rated tow vehicle

    You would be better off buying a new 18ft 2 axle car trailer then sell it once you're done using it

    What are you towing,... ? A Porsche 911 and I'm down to drive it for you...

    You could probably find some reliable poor slob like me that has time on their hands and nothing
    better to do than follow you up in it. If I didn't have 2 dogs, a cat, and was not a personal chef
    to the wife I'd love to do it.

    None, brand new. Looking for ideas
    I haved towed both a 2001 Nissan Frontier from Las Vegas to Reno, Nevada (7 hours) and a 2005 Jeep Wrangler on a uhaul auto carrier trailer. I drive a 2020 Taco SR5. I had no issues pulling either vehicle. The Tacoma does great. My previous truck was an ‘18 Ram 1500 with the Hemi. The Tacoma pulls about equal as long as you remain under the 6400lbs. People make a lot of assumptions without ever actually towing anything.
    As far as my hitch, it’s just a Curt 2” drop hitch. Uhaul gave me no problems and were more the helpful making sure I was set up correctly.

    I though a lot about this (buying my own trailer) but :
    I wouldn’t be saving myself any meaningful weight;
    I wouldn’t be saving myself any money;
    I would have to maintain it away from home and my tools;
    I would have to find a place to pay to store it wherever I go;
    And, it’s one less thing to worry about when relocating every 3 months.
    Plus, this is a 3 day drive but the next one may only be a few hours away and in that case we would just drive the vehicles and not need the trailer at all.

    This is incorrect. Also, I think my rate was less than $25 a day, you are talking about spending a couple thousand.

    thank you. I know many members have a wide variety of experience towing and this specific application is what I was looking for.

    You’re right. It’s a good point. They sure are particular about what they rent. I have a ‘97 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 V8 and they wouldn’t rent me a car dolly (not my car - didn’t give a damn) to pull a friends crappy american people carrier across town when it’s transmission popped. I checked out the uhaul website before I bought the taco to make sure it would work. I prefer the taco but for the money could have gotten a very nice, bigger truck for towing that I just wouldn’t keep as long. As it is, I guess if the lawyers at uhaul say it’s ok, I’ll give it a go.

    It's complicated.
    I just spec'd his trip on the uhaul site: $1,125 for the car carrier (NOT the tow dolly.)

    Pulled this for an hour with traffic. Definitely think I may have been over GCWR with 4 people in the truck + parts but she pulled nicely in S4 and ECT PWR

    Check build thread!
    Yes I did! 09 Honda Civic Coupe. Towed it on ice roads, in 4 high for 3 hours. In a snow storm. Truck did stellar. (terrible photo in the pitch black included)

    Auto transport (flat trailer) from Phoenix to Settle: $344 including 5 days of use, one way. How did you get $1,125? That's robbery

    Perfect! Pics help a lot too - I see the squat to expect and that you have your ball mount flipped for some rise. This is what I needed, thank you

    If you've ever heard of these two popular Drag racing events , Hot Rod Drag week or Rocky Mtn Race week were you drive a race car 1500 miles and race at Drag strips . These race teams need a support trailer to tow behind their race cars . Alot of the teams rented 12' trailers from U-Haul . After U-Haul got word of their trailers were being towed by 2k hp cars and doing trailer burn outs alot of these race teams were put on DNR list and banned from renting from U- Haul for life

    I was just about to go double check this myself as I had looked last night and it was the $400, NOT $1200.
    I had a little freak out there!
    I’d be pretty pissed paying $1k but it’s still cheaper and easier than buying a trailer (don’t tell uhaul)

    awesome, thanks for sharing! About the same size and weight distribution as the mini I’ll be towing and your pics show not too much rear end droop.. hopefully I’ll be missing any snow!
