Anyone regret having an Access Cab?

I prefer an access cab for a few reasons. First off, I generally prefer a reg cab truck. It just seems right to me. But I have a dog that's got some rabbit in him and I went with the access cab to keep him from jumping out before I could shut the door at rest stops and the like when we travel. And finally, a four door shorted truck might as well just be an SUV in my opinion. Especially if you're gonna put a topper on it...just go get a Tahoe. To me a truck should have a 6' bed and no more than two full sized doors. I've just never been a fan of crew cab pick-ups.

I'm not encumbered by wife or kids or even friends. I always considered my truck was a small camper and there really is only room for one.

No kids in the future, no dogs, no hitchhikers, ultra low annual mileage, and no regrets on the second gen AC.

Have I run into a couple awkward parking lot situations opening the rear door? Yes. But having just installed a Retrax, I can’t imagine losing EVEN MORE space in a short bed. It would be tight getting the iSUPs or dive gear into the bed along with other outdoor/trip gear. We also help manage a charity and have hundreds of children’s pajamas to transport during the holidays months.

Before getting the second gen AC, I had driven many miles in third gen TRD DCSB as travel rentals. The ONLY feature I really liked from the DC was the power rear window. Me wanty.

If more passengers are needed, fiancée has new a Corolla or I can rent full size SUVs for cheap.

As @PlugUgly alluded to, if we had kids, the taco would be (reluctantly) traded for a 4R.

No regrets buying my 2015 Utility Package AC. My youngest is grown and driving her own car. The Utility doesn't have the jump seats (and solid glass for the back window). I built a platform for the dogs back there, and really like having roughly trunk sized space behind the seats when I need to keep something in the truck and make multiple stops. Recently had to drive 2 passengers a short distance, but the100 lb adult was perfectly happy sitting on the platform for a few blocks. I camp out of the bed (truck tent) multiple times a year and really wanted the 6 foot bed. Surprisingly, even without the jump seats, there's still a child seat shackle in the back.

No regrets about my cab/bed configuration, it's what I wanted.

I’ve had my AC for almost 3 years and don’t regret it at all. It’s just my wife and I and when we have passengers I prefer that they are uncomfortable so next time they find another ride. Additionally I wouldn’t want to have a smaller bed as some 4 doors have.

Between my ‘07 and ‘15, I’ve driven over 460,000 miles in an Access Cab Tacoma. What’s the opposite of regret?

@OP, It just depends on how much you want that ability to carry additional people, comfortably. I've fit in the back of access cabs, but for really long rides, it can get old. Is that an option?
It's hard to beat the shorter wheelbase and longer bed combo that the access cabs have. For me, I would definitely make use of that extra foot of bed. In general, I'd say keep what you have.

I have a double cab and no kids. I rarely, rarely carry people. But, when I do, I am glad I am able to with more normal sized seats. We have 3 4x4's in the family, but mine is the only one capable to reach certain off-road spots.

I barley give anyone rides but that’s mostly because I can’t lol. My only real concern is wanting the ability to let’s say take everyone snowboarding or even be the one to drive out to camp. I just wanna drive my truck sometimes haha but it’s not the end of the world if my wife and I drive separate/take her car/ride with someone else. Just wanted to get some viewpoints from others.

Also this is my first and only Tacoma as of now so I’m not sure how the ride/ off roading is with other configurations and their wheel bases

With a wife, two kids and a dog, I wish I could go back in time and get the double cab instead of the access cab. It would make going somewhere as a family a lot easier.

ACLB is a no brainer to me. I have never ever considered giving it up for a DC. I do have a second car though, so that makes it easier.

The only way you do this and not regret it is if you need to get a DC because you have children. Then it is something you just have to do and won't grovel over it. If you do it for any other reason, especially considering how much work you have put into your truck, I think you are going to regret it bigtime.

Nope. I love my access cab. I just which I could get my hands on a Hilux after seeing one here in Houston at a fiesta store.

20yrs ago, my Gen1 taco AC fit the bill. Just my wife and I back then. Fast fw to now with occasional pets & kids . The 4d is perfect and still fits in the garage.

The Access Cab is perfect for me. I wouldn't typically have more than one passenger. The space in back is good for tools, jumper cables, tie downs etc. and other miscellaneous items. All models of Tacomas look good though IMO. I'm glad Toyota does offer the Access Cab. It's not available with some trucks like the Dodge (Ram) and the Honda Ridgeline. Seems to be very rare with the Nissan Frontier.
Was the Hilux right hand drive? I didn't think they were typically sold in the U.S.A.

It was left hand drive and I think the person had it imported from mexico as they aren't sold here in the USA due to dumb tax laws and some regulation. From the image you can see the steering wheel from the left driver door.

Interesting - looks to be a bit larger than the Tacoma. That's got to be a rare sighting.
