Not even remotely, I got my truck for me, and nobody else, even specifically got a manual as I wanted one and very few of my friends can drive one and none of my acquaintances which has been a fantastic excuse when people ask "Hey you've got a truck; can I borrow it?" which happens more often than I would have expected.

The answer is always going to be no but at least I have the convenient excuse of "Well you can't drive a stick so... No."

One of the first things I did was rip out the rear seats and get a gear rack to put back there, I've actually been looking for, though not actively, a fleet vehicle passenger seat to replace the TRD seat I have, I want the one that folds in half and has a "work table" and I would probably use it like that 99% of the time.

It's very very rare that I ever have even one other person with me that would need a ride let alone more than one, in those instances someone else always has a 4 door or 5 seat something we can take instead that's usually more comfortable and better on gas anyway.

In the five years I've owned my truck there's probably only been a half dozen instances where it would have been nice if I had more seats but it's never been an actual issue.

More space would be nice on occasion but I already feel like the 2nd gen Tacoma is too big coming from a 1st gen so a DCLB wouldn't work for me, plus they didn't make them manual, and double cab short bed would not work for me as I occasionally need to haul my Goldwing and that hangs out the back of the 6' if it isn't 45'ed in the bed, wouldn't fit in a 5' even 45'ed.

Besides, the ACLB is the best looking of all the Tacoma.

I don't regret buying my AC but I'm looking at getting a double cab since I'm heading to Colorado in September. 3 adults in an AC would definitely suck for the guy sitting in the back. Right now I'm stuck between the TRD DC or a Gladiator.

Not only do I not regret an access cab, I've removed the rear seats as well. Anything besides one passenger they better have their own vehicle that can keep up

I got to test drive one in Japan, same body style though black, RHD and 4cyl diesel. From the middle forward it's more or less identical to the tacoma as far as I can tell but the rear suspension set up is completely different.

Driven my 2008 access cab sport for 14 years.
Just took delivery of a 2022 AC Sport after waiting 8 months.
I love the access cab configuration, but the Double cab is a great set up for a family truck.
    Everything is a trade off.

Nope, love the AC. Didn’t buy this truck to be a taxi. 90% of the time it is just me, and have been married for 14 years. Bought it to have a little extra storage in the cab. Need the 6’ bed too for all the crap I carry. EZUP for my moto events wouldn’t fit in the short bed. Really could use an 8’ bed, the 2nd Gen Tundra single cab would of been perfect, about the same amount of room behind the seat as our ACs. But they discontinued those, wanted new.

My 1G is an extra cab, that worked for 20 years, imagine my 3G will work for another 20.

Rumor has it that Toyota might discontinue it for the 4G, that would be a damn shame. As it is the best configuration.

imagine letting someone borrow a manual whose knowledge ends at reading the gear pattern and then money shifts it blowing the engine

My crew cab long bed 3rd gen is like 1" shorter than my crew cab Ram 1500 was. I make do because I'm a cheap bastard and I don't want to buy another SWB jeep, but driving the DCLB is like piloting a 747 except it's narrow

Tacomas are small truck no more :(

Wish I woulda went access cab. I bought the double cab thinking that I would probably have a kid sometime in the nearish future. Well it’s been six years since then and still not even married. That’s what I get for trying to think practically instead of living in the moment.

I test drove some new DCs and ACs before settling on a used AC. The DC still felt super cramped, and the suicide-style half doors on the AC are far superior for accessing gear and a fridge in the back seat. (Hmm... maybe that's why they call it the access cab?) Plus I can still carry passengers back there in a pinch. Oh, and I sleep in the bed, can't do that in a DCSB.

My last truck was an F150, also a "short bed access cab" style, and also a great truck. Of course being a full-size that meant it could carry 6 passengers, had a 6 1/2 foot bed, and could fit sheets of plywood between the wheel wells. Also it had disc brakes, so even with oversized tires, loaded down and towing, that thing stopped on a dime compared to my Tacoma... but that's a different rant.

Anyway, despite all its glory, the F150's spacious cab and bed were its undoing: I like exploring sketchy narrow roads too much, so I switched to a far-nimbler Tacoma. No regrets

But the question was never DC vs. AC, but full-size vs. mid-size. Most of the time it's just me and the wife, the AC is perfect for that. And when family visits, we need space for 6, and no Tacoma is going to do that.

I had a regular cab 1st gen and the seat position was reclined and close to the wheel, or vertical back and belly space from the wheel

AC meant I can recline and have belly space. I think i had a passenger once or twice before I deleted my rear seats.

Reminds me of a neighbor who decided they could afford one more kid after having 2, the third ended up being twins.

No regrets at all on my Access Cab. A big part of the decision was the realization that in the 4 years I had my previous car, I had a passenger in the back seat less than once a year, but could have used additional cargo space countless times. Since I've gotten my Tacoma, I've taken advantage of the space in the long bed but have not needed to have more than my wife and myself inside the cab.

Loving all the feedback guys. Making me feel a little better
I don’t even recall even noticing the configuration of my truck when I bought it, I was just in awe at how awesome (and cheap) it was. Especially coming from a 91 XJ with a 4.5” rough country lift lol
But after a few days reading this thread, I think I’m out of my selling my truck phase. No need for a double cab right now, but if life happens then I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.

Yep. Extra/Access Cabs were always the best looking.
