My 08 tacoma got 27.3 mpg on a trip that was half fully loaded. That's pretty dang good. I doubt that your 83 got much better (unless it was a diesel)

I had a 4 cylinder Mazda B2200 it had like 85 HP and all in all it was pretty good, except the one time I tried to tow a homecoming float. BTW, that Mazda got 32 mpg on the highway. So I think I would have been happy with the 160 HP 4 banger but I couldn't stomach the ride height, wheels, and overall look of the non 4X4 I4's, and couldn't find the elusive I4 4x4. Of course now that I have the V6 I'm sure it would be a hard switch.

The only thing I've been regretting is getting the black sand pearl. Love the color but so damn hard to keep clean. If i had to do it all again I think I would go with the desert mica color.

Both my '83 (I had one to) and my '91 were good for right around a 30 MPG average with a 42 mile daily work commute.

I started to have regrets after the first month of ownership for the following reasons..........

    1. Driver side tweeter cover just fell off.

This worried me for several reasons. One was, was this thing inspected! This shouldn't happen to a car two weeks old.

    2. The infamous tick.

Again, made me worry that I had a lemon off the bat. No car of mine had a tick prior to this.

    3. Alarm wouldn't chirp and lock the doors. Then self resolved.

My previous car (Honda never had these little issues) was defect free. Only after almost 100K miles did it start to develop noises.

It sounds like nit picking, but I came into this with high expectations and was accustomed to Honda like performance.

Bottom line is I will work with this truck but probably go back to Honda in the future.

So how much lift do you think this is... And what size tires could I run without them rubbing?

My last Taco was a 2000 standard cab, 4 banger - had it just shy of 8 years. Nice truck, great gas mileage but waaay too small. I developed claustrophobia on long trips and I got tired of having to turn off the a/c to maximize hp for driving up hills :D.

My new 08 Taco TRD Sport Access Cab w/V6 is a dream truck and I do not envision buying another for a long, long time. I also have a 96 4Runner - have had it coming up on 12 years. No regrets on any Toy purchase I've made over the last 22 years.

Now that would truly be the worst of both worlds, a gas-hog Hummer that had the Prius' geeky look!!

Yup, that's my other vehicle......speaking of good mileage, I'm getting 51mpg now that the weather has warmed up some. It got a modest 42-43mpg most of the winter, they don't like real cold weather and do better in warmth, as do all vehicles.

No, not plugging the Prius here so much, however, this is a Taco forum, I appreciate that and I love my truck. Apples and oranges......

Well, I went to Fremont Toyota, 'bout 1 mile from where all your Tacomas are built, sat in a Double Cab Tacoma, first time ever.

I could get comfortable in the front although I thought the steering wheel was just tad low with tilt all the way up. Not bad, just my opinion. Plenty of headroom. Rear mirror largely in line of sight, but not horrible. It seemed pretty cool in there. Gauges were nice, center console nice.

Back seat was another story. I shifted around all sorts of ways, and the headroom was just not there for me. That rounded portion of roof was hittin' my head if leaning back to the headrest. Such a shame as I'm sure that was the case.

Salesman suggested a Tundra, but I don't want to go that big, so looks like I'll need another brand.

Just how often will you be sitting in your back seat? I mean really that doesn't sound like a great reason to pass on the truck IMO. If the front seat had no headroom then I'd worry.

Oh wait, check out this link, Tacoma has 2nd best headroom for the back seat in it's class, missed first to the Frontier by .2"

    http://www.autos.com/autos/comparer...5C0,USB80CHT353A0,USB80NIT123A0,USB80TOT095A0

not a real good reason to buy another truck.

And since you're worried about headroom, Tacoma has the best front headroom of compact double cab trucks. So it's a trade off.

I love my 2008 Speedway BlueTRD Sport Double Cab Long Bed. If it was totaled tomorrow, I'd replace it with a 2009 Speedway BlueTRD Sport Double Cab Long Bed!
