400K+ miles on 4, AC 4WD 4cyl manual shift toyota pu's in 21 years w/no major problems or regrets (obviously). Never even drove my 08 b4 purchase. Least satisfied w/my 08 sr5 ac initially due to soft suspension and i also did not particularly like the way it sat so low and nose down. TSB + 5100s and some visual upgrades (FJ gunmetal wheels, etc) and I am in for the long haul once again.:)

When my 2006 Tacoma was totaled, there was no doubt I was buying another Tacoma. Only which model. I have no regrets and I've already been a repeat buyer, and will buy again after my 2009 Tacoma as well.

The only regret I have is buying an 09 and not an 08 access cab. They were both on the lot but the side impact airbags and electronic extras were what sold me. The rear cab design for the 09 AC is terrible. I should have bought an 08 AC or an 09 double cab and a trailer.

But tacomas are still the best and I wouldn't consider anything else.... Well, maybe an FJ.

OP, it's been quite awhile since you started this thread. What did you end up with?

    I love my Tacoma...

    BUT...

I do regret trading my '05 Dodge Ram 2500 QuadCab SLT Longbed 4x4 Diesel for it...

It was twice the truck and got better mileage...

i have no regrets buying my tacoma. i have had it for over 4 years now, and only plan on getting rid of it when i decide to get a new tacoma. my truck has literally been all over the world with me, i drove it for 2 years in the uk while i was stationed over there. i would say i almost love my truck as much as my girlfriend. i still get excited when i get up in the morning, knowing i get to drive my truck into work.

Very happy with my Taco. I would like to have had the ability to purchase a few comfort type options that Toyota does not offer but I'll add them myself in time.

I'd buy it again in a heartbeat. Absolutely no regreats.

I can't imagine the Tacoma becoming a rattle trap. At 24K miles it's still a very tight and nice riding truck. The are plenty of people around with a lot more miles. Let's hear what they have to say.

I don't know where to start with the Ridgeline. To keep it simple let's just
    say I'm glad I have a Tacoma.

Old thread is old but, what the hell. Only regrets I have is getting a prerunner instead of 4x4 and a access over double cab. I'm still mixed on auto vs 6mt so it's not so much a regret as a curiosity if I really would have liked the 6mt better on this truck (probably yes).

My only regret is how much money I parted with on doing this truck!

In other words, my only regret is finding TACOMA WORLD!!!

I could not be happier with my 09 DC LB. You show me another truck that holds it's value the way the Tacoma does I might look. But there is nothing out there that can come close. GMCs are a dime a dozen, Dodge is now RAM and fiat which is bad. And ford is on there way back but the raptor is the only one I would own. People can say that a Tacoma is as close to a "investment" that a vehicle could be.

It's a better 'investment' than my house by a long shot.

I would bet that my truck after ten years will still be worth more than any other truck that old on the market. These trucks are solid and nothing else compares at this time. And in this market/economy I might r
even put it's "investment" against anything, including my house.

Just picked up my certified pre-owned 2006 PreRunner SR5 DC with 71,000 miles on the odometer. I have never, ever, ever enjoyed a used vehicle as much as this truck (besides my 2002 425rwhp camaro, but that's another story). You could have told me that it was a 2009 with 0 miles and I would have believed you! So smooth and so clean. No signs of wear or tear anywhere on the truck! No regrets, yet!

Traded in my '07 dc trd offroad for a 2010 dc trd sport (timberland mica, best color there is!). Originally paid 25k in 07, dealer gave me 20k three years later, and lowered my monthly by $75. Pretty amazing to upgrade to a brand new truck and actually lower your monthly (same terms, except slightly better rate this time). Great investment.

I traded a 2001 Tacoma on a 2009 and I liked the 2001 better. On the new truck I have had an idler bearing and stereo go in the first 16000, and I had 190,000 on the 01 with no problems.

I probably would still buy a tacoma again, but I would definitely look around first.

One big problem for me is that these trucks are having problems you should never see from an established auto manufacturer, period. The 2nd gens seem to have problems that no one should ever have given current engineering advancements, such as failing motor mount welds and leaf springs that are inadequate to carry advertised loads without bottoming out. The last time I heard of motor mounts cracking was with MGB's in the late 70's. These are simple engineering calculations, and I can't imagine that those brainiacs at such an advanced company didn't recognize a problem with motor mounts or can't calculate spring rate requirements. To top it off, when the company is presented with vehicle failures, they don't even issue a recall, just a TSB. This is an insult because at this point they are informed that their vehicle can't perform up to specs. It should not matter whether or not I haul heavy loads on a regular basis. If the vehicle can't perform up to specs on a regular basis then you are not getting what you paid for. I would consider buying another one, but would have to know that these manufacturing problems were resolved to my satisfaction. When I am in the market for a new truck, I am going to take the list of 2nd gen problems to the dealership and ask them specifically, one by one, what has been done to address the design flaws. If they can't provide intelligent answers I will not be buying another one.
