I need to replace my return power steering line. I just ordered the part from autozone and am wondering if this is as easy as it looks? I appears there are 3 bolts that I can see and 2 hose clamps. I feel like I am missing something. Is this job easier on ramps or jack stands with the wheels removed? I any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Here is the part that I ordered https://m.autozone.com/suspension-s...teering-return-hose/591064_686837_0?location=

I almost fell over when the dealer told me $380 for the pressure and return hoses and they were only sold as an assembly. $35 from autozone feels a lot better than that.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks - Nomad.

    The link is not working.

You'll get a better deal on OEM parts from TW vendors, but nothing close to the aftermarket prices for parts made in China. Not that they are bad if quality control is kept to a high bar.

Might as well replace the return hose from the reservoir to the metal line near the chassis. It's a pre-form hose, but I replaced it with a straight ATF hose. I think it was 3/8" ID, and you'll probably need new clamps if the OD is not the same as OEM.

Sorry I can't seem to get the link to work but the part I want to replace is the return from the rack to the reservoir.

I haven't ordered yet but will take a look at the sponsors to see if anyone has the part.

I bought my hose assy in eBay for 100.00 and you need a flare nut wrench .easier to loosen the rack for more room which I did since it was replaced.

I am going to try and replace just the return line. However if I need to replace the entire assembly what size flare nut wrench is needed?

Both of the hoses on my reservoir are clamped on. The flared hoses are on the pump and rack/pinion.

I understand that. I'm considering just replacing the whole assembly from the pump to the rack and from the rack to the reservoir. I am trying to find out which size flared nut wrench I need to buy for remove the pressure line from the pump and rack.

Use your open-end metric wrenches to determine proper flare-nut wrench size. If a 12mm open-end fits, then buy a 12mm flare-nut wrench, etc.

harbor freight flare nut wrench set was worth it to buy

I cut my line and used a combo wrench on it

Once you see the hose assy, you will thank your self for replacing the whole thing instead of just the return line

Op. It's an easy job and as straight forward as you think. I just did it on my truck a couple weeks ago.
Only problem I had was I could only get about a 1/16 of a turn at a time on the nut at the rack, so it took forever.
I also took off the hose holding clamps near the bottom as that was in the way of my wrench.
I bought my replacement from rockauto.
    Good luck

But 2 flare wrenches one for breaking loose. Cut the handle off the second for more clearance quicker. Got alot if home modufues tools.

Thanks everyone! I have the truck up on ramps and the skid plates off. I just ordered the whole assembly from rock auto. The price was so good and the pressure like looked ehhh so just made sense to replace it all. Now I just have to wait until the part gets here. I guess I will just keep sprayin the bolts with pb blaster to have them ready to come off. I'm in need of a harbor freight trip for the wrenches and I will be off to the races on this little project hopefully by friday.

if you don't think you have enough room when working, drop the tranny mount to raise front of motor up

I doubt I have the proper equipment to pull that off.

I will keep that as an option then. I didn't think it would be that easy. I learned something new. Thanks!

I've always done my maintenance work and minor things. Power steering lines are a new one for me but again it doesn't look too hard. It will probably take me an hour or two but it wont be a problem.

    It’s a easy job

Make sure you actually use a flare nut wrench though

soak the bolts in PBlaster a day or two before and it will be easier to remove

my splash guard bolts broke and had to get speed nuts and bolts for it after grinding off the old nuts
