Yeah I can see how you or any other owner would notice the difference. Good to know though

My firestone destination 275's rub at full lock with a lift. I was parked next to some BFG 285's not too long ago and I swear they looked bigger than the BFG's.

    Zombie thread revival!

There is a 50 page thread for 275s on 3rd gens but nothing for 2nd gens.

Who else has 275s on their 2nd gen? I wanna see some pics!

From all these pictures, can we assume the 275/70/17 tires will only fit on black or gun metal colored wheels???

Well, I may have to break that trend given that my new to me 2005 AC Silver Tacoma TRD Sport with a LSD with 65K miles is about ready to have the original tires replaced;.

Ya, I know it's hard to believe, but the truck has been given to me by my 93 year old farther in-law who purchased it new way back when. And, based on that tidbit you can start the pool to see who wins at determining how old I am.

I am very interested in going to either 255/75R17 or 275/70R17; and yes, there is not much difference between them. And the BFG K02 is what I am interested in.

The truck is stock. I have repaired the compass so that now works.

The truck came with 265/65R17 tires and I'm looking for some additional ground clearance without spending money on a lift. If we do anything to the suspension it will be driven by weight load being increased, which is going to happen as we kit the about to be beast for our travels.

We much prefer two lane roads without pavement and will spend all the time in the world traveling slowly. We will work our way into upgrades as we equip the vehicle for our travels. We spent seven years traveling on our motorcycles out of the country when we retired. This will be the next phase of that there adventure. It will be a lot easier to do the suspension when we know what our GVW is, exactly; well, baring personal weight gain or the dog coming back to camp with a treasure or two.

    Regards,

    Jim

The 275 70 will be a bit taller and a bit wider than the 255 75 however depending on which brand/model tire you choose the difference can be significant.
On the KO2s the difference is between the two sizes is only 0.1 inch. You may want to consider a spacer lift/ leveling kit for now with that size tire to avoid rubbing the front bumper liner while reversing with the wheels turned.

When you decide to go with a proper suspension lift consider Elka. I couldn’t be happier with these shocks. Amazing quality and performance.

Did you have to do a cmc for that? What lift and wheel offset do you have? Thanks!

Hey man, I have a level (bilstein 5100) and was thinking of getting some 17x9 -25 offset wheels. I was thinking 265s but not sure so I’m debating on the 275s. You think I’d have a problem on my 2001?

Just to add for anyone checking out this tire size for their 2nd gen.
    275/70r17 tires, 0 offset 4.75 bs 8.5" wheels, icon stage 8... 2" front/back lift... rxt leaf's at option 2. Hub to fender front 22"/ 24" in back.
No noticeable power loss (upgraded from 265/75r16) Auto tranny shifts the same around town and up mountain grades. Had to trim small amount of plastic and remove mud flaps up front... clears cab mount by 1/2-3/4" at full turn.
