Ive found that when im driving on the thruway or other long distance drives i can get noticeably better MPG's by folding my side mirrors in. There aren't any blind spots in my truck so it's not very dangerous, probably illegal.

Hmmm...bumping for some PoPo to chime in. This is not something I would ever do to save a dime personally, but curious how illegal that is...

This is very intersting. If the injectors are shut off Engine stalls.Yea you'll save gas but no power steering or brakes but as we all know the engine dosn.t stall so injectors are still operating.Gearing down will save your brakes.I just fill it up enjoy the ride.

I'm pretty sure that when coasting down hill in gear, the fuel control system is in the minimum fuel setting even though the drive wheels are causing the engine to turn faster than idle speed, so you're saving fuel but slowing down due to engine braking. I think you should stay in gear (auto or manual) in traffic, but that's just me.

Do you know that a 1987 honda civic hatchback when put in neutral tailgating in the rear of an 18wheeler can be towed at a steady spead on a slight downgrade for miles, Even when shut off. Specifically when you are out of gas on a PA highway:spy:

Usually not, since you are below the rpm where fuel cutoff occurs.

It's even harder to get into fuel cutoff with an automatic.

I think you should clarify if you are talking of Automatic or Manual. I belie the shutoff is only for automatic for us manual transmition is better to put it in neutral.

My 2 Cents on the matter...

Theres no way in hello pete that the injectors turn off without fuel what the f is there to combust theres always got to be a small amout of fuel for the motor to run . You must have these 3 things to make a motor run air fuel and spark:D
