    Just like the title says....

I'm getting rid of my Engo winch... and I think I'm going to run a synthetic lined winch next

debating on the Smittybilt X2o 10k w/ synthetic line....

then I came across this company "Freedom Offroad" in NC that has a 12,000 lb winch w/ a 1 year warranty for $320 shipped (and it's Prime on Amazon)

    link:
    https://www.amazon.com/Freedom-Elec...6624215&sr=1-1&keywords=freedom+offroad+winch

I'm going to contact them about the details of their warranty and get a feel for their customer service.... but you almost cant go wrong for $320.....

Don't know anything about this brand, but I got the Smittybilt 9,500 Gen 2 with synthetic linebecause it is waterproof. If you're going to drop your Taco in water deep enough to merit a snorkel, you're gonna want a waterproof unit

We won't know how good these are until someone not only buys one but uses it several times. I almost bought the Smitty a couple days ago because it dropped to $460 on Amazon. Kicking myself now, but I really don't "need" it. I found this link buried on TW somewhere (I forget where exactly) and it seems to be legit. A couple members here bought and reported everything to be legit as well.:
    https://www.discountbandit.com/vehi...ccessories/smittybilt-x2o-10-winch-98510.html

A small voice in the back of my head is always telling me not to cheap out when it comes to recovery gear though. You'll find out how cheap something is when you're in the worst possible conditions.

Always on the lookout for that hidden gem though.

Yeah, I came SO close to buying the Harbor Freight Badland 9k for $229 plus 20% off...but then I read a magazine review where they tested several winch brands and this one didn't even work right out of the box! Warn & Smittybilt got the best overall reviews. They even submerged all the winches in water for a period of time before testing them. The Smittybilt was rated the most waterproof.
I mean, you gotta remember it's an electric motor that is right up in front of the truck where it is constantly being exposed to wet weather, even if it's just rain or wet road salt in the winter:crapstorm:

:notsure: I might.... I'm not sure....

it's kind of a huge pain in the ass to take off the bumper to change out winches.... so I dont know if I just want to buy the Smitty X20 right out of the gate or try these guys out.... I'll know more once I call them and talk to them.

yea, @buyobuyo gave me that link (that's the site he bought his off of)

I believe this is the "multi winch shootout" youre referring to:
    http://www.fourwheeler.com/how-to/129-1107-massive-multi-winch-shootout/

but the Smitty wasnt tested on this one.... it's actually the reason I ordered an ENGO winch.... it just sucks about the control box / they seem to have gone downhill in the last year or 2....

    A thing or two...
A 12 month warranty is pretty short. Also, you have to consider if that's 12 months for everything or just the mechanical or electrical. Smittybilt X2O winches are lifetime mechanical and 5 year electrical. Their XRC line is lifetime mechanical and 3 year electrical.

There's a Smittybilt XRC 12k winch with Synthetic line on Amazon for $450, so for a little extra money, you get an established/known brand with a better warranty. You don't get the wireless remote, though.

Yeah, you're right. It was a while ago when I read it and I AM old and forgetful. Lol. I read it when I was considering Superwinch, not Smittybilt

I don't really care about 12k vs 10k either will do the join just fine. But I see your point about the warranty... I might just go with the X2o

@EDDO and I installed a Smitty X20 10k in my Demello bumper without dropping it. Take out the grill and interior bracing to the radiator support and it dropped right in
