Yes, I am aware that I have made a few posts regarding the same thing, I guess I have a habit of looking at cars from all over the place, but anyway...

I found a 4runner I would like to purchase, but the seller lives in Blue Lake/Humboldt area and I am all the way in Los Angeles. I don't mind road trips but that one is a bit too far to go in case the 4Runner is not to my liking. The seller doesn't seem to know too much about it so I would just prefer somebody look it over in person before I make that trip up there.

I realize humble might be pretty far from most major cities, but maybe one of you guys lives close enough?

Of course I will offer some compensation, maybe a few bucks or some beer from LA or something. Please let me know.

thanks. I should have said she isn't very savvy when it comes to vehicles. She has owned it or 12 years according to carfax though, so that's good.

She is slow to respond to emails, let me see if she will be around today. And either way, I truly appreciate the offer. Hopefully she's there. Any idea what time you will be going?

I'd be careful bringing cash to Humboldt. Lots of people go missing there. Have them meet you at the police station. Those weed towns are no joke. Lots of money, guns and crazy people.

Its one of the most dangerous counties in the state, if not the most dangerous. Kinda surprising because it looks so nice there.

I bought a 4Runner up in Eureka a couple of years ago, was blown away by the scene up there (and on the drive up), pretty sketchy.
Bring a friend, be prepared, well beyond purchasing a vehicle and dealing with any mechanical issues, if you know what I mean...

Bump, the seller finally got back to me.

Or does anyone know of a PPI company near there?

Side note: what is the closest major airport to Humboldt in case I actually go get this thing. Thanks.

Off topic, but has anyone used the lemon squad for the pre-purchase inspection?

Not much in terms of airports up there. Airport up in Medford is an option. Maybe Redding. Really nothing major up there. Closest major airport would be Sacramento/San Fran, which is still quite far. Personally I’d drive from LA over flying to San Fran.

But to reiterate, Humboldt is seriously creepy. One of the sketchiest places I have ever been in this country (I’ve always had the urge to stop in Gary Indiana. I think that might be worse lol).

Given the location and your lack of familiarity/resource in the area, I’d recommend walking away from this vehicle. Pay a few extra bucks and buy from a better location. Don’t wanna read about you on the nightly news.

The times are tough, that used to be a fishing, timber, and weed farming region. There's no fishing or timber anymore. There's tweakers, mountainesque pot people, and meth. Driving through the towns you can see instantly the times are tough. You won't fit in up there, and it'll be obvious you're not from around there. You might not find people who are cool with you and happy to see you. Friendly, polite, neighborly folks sure - but don't expect open arms. That's not to say the people are bad or menacing, rather they're guarded and are survivors.

Eureka and Arcata are cool towns to explore, and the most developed portion of the north coast. Fun breaks year round, some awesome diving, good kayaking, and mountain biking if you are with locals.

Don't have high hopes. I regularly respond to 911 calls in Humboldt county, not with an ambulance or fire truck.

The closest "major" airport is KOAK and KSFO. They're both international, and have car rentals. Next would be KSMF (Sacramento) also international and also has car rentals. Redding KRDD has flights to BUR and LAX, also has Avis, Budget, and Hertz.

Still haven't seen the craigslist ad or pics, I'm not expecting much.

Man, you guys are making me worried about this thing. If it's the car wasn't so rare I would have given up a long time ago, but they are impossible to find and this one is a pretty good price. The seller definitely seems legit, I have her name and she is a school teacher up there. I guess she actually lives in arcata and not Humboldt, so I don't know if that's better or worse. Her ad expired a while ago so I can't link it, and I have been talking to her for a few weeks back and forth. Thank you for the airport information, I live a few miles from Burbank airport and they have flights to eureka airport for pretty cheap, but I didn't realize they don't have rental cars so I need to find a spot with rentals.

    LOL the "commuter" flights.

You can rent a car up there as well, apparently.

What are the commuter flights? I think there is only one airline that offers cheap flights, everything else is like $400 for an hour and a half flight.

Do you live in that area? Do you happen to know if there is a good mechanic I can take the 4Runner to for an inspection? I know I'm naive, but I really didn't realize just how remote that area seems to be. There's like nothing up there.
