Curious about tunes but I have no prior knowledge about tuning and curious what the gains are vs engine/trans wear. I am looking for power gains or on the flipside could do with better MPG but either way just very curious about other later 2nd gen owners experience with it

There are people with it, but not many. I would HIGHLY recommend HP Tuners! OVTune seems to be more focused towards the 3rd gens.

There is a very extensive thread but has very good results! https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/hp-tuners-for-2005-2015.600793/

I have the HP Tuners with a tune from JustDSM and V11 trans tune from nd4spdbh. It is amazing! Drives the way I think it should have from Toyota. Shift logic is probably the biggest difference and how it holds gear on the interstate and doesn't hunt as much. Also the throttle response is more linear. There are many other small changes made that help make these differences. Also, my engine is completely stock except for a drop in AFE air filter.

EDIT: I would also like to add that if any mods are added at a later date that you can do a data log and have someone like JustDSM or someone local with a dyno make changes to take advantage of the added modifications.
