Creating a new post for this question as after a lot of searching, I found search results mostly took me to: posts including front cameras; posts with different coloring wires on the harness or switches; etc... So I hope this helps me as well as others in the future.

--I have the ABC harness ABC-28 (for rear cam only; with "orange" and "red" wires).
    --I have a ch4x4 spst switch (with green, red1, red2, & black wires).
--I simply want the rear camera to display when I push the switch to "on," but also I'd still like the switch illuminated when the switch is "off."

    1. Can someone confirm (or offer a fix if I have something wrong) for my plan below?
    2. I don't need to add any inline fuses, correct?

    SWITCH:
green ----------> to red wire from ABC harness
red1 ----------> to orange wire from ABC harness
red2 ----------> to red wire from ABC harness
black ----------> to ground anywhere behind the dash

I appreciate (and totally welcome) constructive criticism... but the "constructive" part seems to be lacking
Can you offer more insight? Are they prone to failure? Is there a better/more popular switch choice for a simple rear camera push button switch? I appreciate any additional feedback.

To anyone else that can help, still looking for advice about the wiring part. Thanks in advance.

Absolutely terrible description on the ABC page for wiring, but yes that looks right. (That is If by ‘load‘ they actually mean ‘trigger’). You’re better off illuminating the switch (red 2) from the dash light circuit though.

I agree. Otherwise this switch light won't dim to levels matching the other buttons (and dash lights.)

Thanks @mutely and @Gen3TacomaOBX for the tips! Is it common to tap into that via the other nearby switches (and the wiring going to them?)

You're welcome. Yes, I used a Posi-tap splice connector to make it simple.

Thanks again @Gen3TacomaOBX, and thanks for pointing me to that article about tapping into dimmer wiring. Much appreciated!

Following up to complete this thread - as I got my switch working with illumination and dimming working properly...

In the taco pdf manual that I found on this site, I found the wiring for the Parking Sonar Switch. Pins 4 and 5 are ILL- and ILL+.

Here is how I wired things up:
    wiring.jpg

Here is the back of my Parking Sonar Switch:
-- so in my case pin4 (ill-) is the tan wire, pin5 (ill+) is the turquoise wire (not sure if those are the "official" wire colors but thats what they look like)
-- I used Post-Tap connectors to tap into these wires
    IMG_6893.jpg

    Ta-da:
    --works like a charm
--illumination and dimming also work, woot!

Just in case anyone is wondering, for my 2017 TRD sport 4x4 Toyota also used the Tan wire to power/ illuminate the switches on the driver side console.
Here is a recent video I posted installing the 2nd red wire. Photos of the wire are at the end. At this point I feel like all the switches are illuminated with the Tan colored wire. Thanks for posting this. It makes future installs a bit easier.

@COS_TACO Thank you for posting the diagram. Super helpful! I searched the forums and the ABC website and was having a hard finding good information on wiring just the backup camera to a SPST switch. Always appreciate it when folks circle back to share their successes and close the loop. Thanks man!
