Anytime Front and Rear Camera Mod

I do not have an aftermarket head unit. I have the stock head unit (JBL Version) disregard my last comment, I didn’t have a ground connected. I’m using the Natika camera, and the anytime camera switch and kit.

 

I'm bench testing the camera right now that I have for the back of my camper that will be connected to my factory HU through utilizing the same ABC switch but with a video switcher in line. All the cameras I believe are wired the same.

 

I’m convinced I have a bad component somewhere. I triple checked the wiring and it’s not working.

Green - Green
Red - Red
Orange - Orange
Black - Black

Camera directly powered and grounded, RCA’s connected properly.

Super annoying that you can’t get anything of reliable quality these days.

 

So when you flip the ABC switch from back to front you get the same video feed? The rear camera.

 

No, disregard that post. I didn’t have a ground connected. I just get a black screen. I found an old drone monitor that has a yellow RCA input and tried that too, black screen again. Gotta be a bad camera. What a piece of shit, that is not confidence inspiring at all. The Natika is supposed to be the nice one! I’d pay 3x the price for better quality stuff if I didn’t have to deal with shit like this.

 

Yup. That is why I have bench tested this 4x camera input I'm working on before install.

So I thought I would take mine own advice and test the last camera I got and just discovered that the LEDs around the camera do not work.

 

Unbelievable, cheap Chinese crap just ruined by day/night

 

I have confirmation, it was a bad camera right out of the box. What a pain in the ass. Got it all sorted out now though. Do yourself a favor and test these cameras out before installation if you can. Would have saved me hours of my life I wasted on this. Thank you to @oostroma for the late night help.

I do have a question about the button illumination. The button seems to be at max brightness all the time since wired to a constant 12V with the ignition on. Does anyone know if it can be connected to a dimmer wire that would dim with the gauges and the rest of the interior buttons?

What type of switch is it? If the power to the light on the switch is also the power to the camera then you could put a resistor on the "-" terminal to dim it down a bit. If the "+" is separate from the power to the camera then you could tap into the "+" and "-" on an adjacent switch to control brightness.

 

I thought Natika was the good aftermarket camera everyone is getting? If its junk then whats good? I plan on adding a front cam soon and looking for recommendations

 

I have the Nakita camera and have had no issues with it.

 

That’s what I thought but the one I got was bad right out of the box. Now that’s only a sample size of one and I know a lot of people like it, but for me, it’s a 50% failure rate. I will admit, the picture is better than the factory backup camera.

 

I just finished installing the germes lab anytime front rear camera and all I can say its by far the most simple plug n play install I have ever done on any of my vehicle head units took me about 45min and thats installing the camera on my pro grille as well. I also went ahead and made my own NAV override switch to the #17 pin on the germes lab harness and works great

Yeah i just wish the one for 2020 was working as advertised and that people can get some answers kf why not. Id much prefer this over the anytime brand but looks like thats what im gonna have to go with

I was planning on going that route until I found out that every time you shift into drive the front camera is displayed for about 30 seconds until it automatically goes out. That would drive me nuts, I like to have full control over the cameras.
