If you go from Park to Drive the camera does NOT come on.

And anytime the front camera is on, a simple press of the MODE button on the steering wheel will make it go away. It also goes away automatically after your TACO reaches 13 mph (around there).

Not true. Reverse-to-Drive the front camera comes on automatically. That's it, unless you intentionally turn on the front camera using the Mode button.

I have discovered the same illumination issue with my ABC camera button. I will be tapping into the power of the adjacent ECT button to get the dimming to work.

Okay but reverse to drive still triggers the camera, correct? Either way that would still drive me nuts.

Every single time you put it in drive though, that’s my point. Seems like a real nuisance.

Yeah. And it stays on for a full 30 seconds. Or until you reach a forward speed of 12mph. It's really unbearable. I hate it so much I would install it in my second Tacoma if I had two Tacoma's.

Its actually not bad at all, unless your looking down at your radio you dont notice it there at least me personally...it doesn't bother me. While your driving forward and focused on the road and whats in front of you for the minimal couple seconds that it turns on automatically when going from reverse to drive and like mentioned before one simple tap of the mode button on your steering wheel and its off

No need to get so defensive Over your purchase, it’s a personal preference thing, hence the reason I didn’t choose that option. I don’t like that you have to press a button every single time you shift to drive or wait 30 seconds for the system to return to a normal state. It’s just another thing to do every time you shift.

If anyone other than yourself, family member or significant other drove your truck, maybe they just backed out of parking spot and are trying to get music playing on the radio. They’re unfamiliar with the controls, don’t know you have to press a button to get rid of the camera feed, and can’t figure out how to change anything on the radio because the camera is displayed. They focus on the radio and not on the road and then BAM they get into a fender bender in a parking lot. It’s a hypothetical but a total possibility and a procedure I don’t want to add to my vehicle. To each his own though.

    To each, their own.

Another option for you is the Anytime Backup Camera. It's controlled with a switch... nothing automatic there... if you want a camera anytime, flip the switch. When you're done with it... flip it back.

Most of us like the GermesLab setup because it's automatic. It comes on automatically, turns off automatically. Which is a feature I like the best, AND... I don't have to give up a switch slot.

Also... you let other people drive your TACO?!?

Not getting defensive. But you're making a big deal out of something that you (apparently) don't have any first-hand experience with. Under normal driving conditions the automatic display when going from reverse-to-drive disappears in mere seconds, due to the increase in vehicle speed. The real benefit is when doing a back-and-forth while squeezing into or out of a tight parking space.

That’s what I have is a switch. I have it wired so I can view the front or the back camera at anytime. When it’s in the middle position it functions as the normal stock configuration.

Yes I let my girlfriend drive when I’ve had a few drinks lol!

So bummed. Just had to disconnect my harness and camera. Not sure where the issue lies. Bad connection or faulty harness somewhere obviously. A week after installation and everything working great my check engine lighg came on and threw all kinds of codes. All related to the head unit. It was saying my backup cam was disconnected, soemthing about navigation wasnt right and some other stuff. Even while saying backup cam wasnt connected it still worked and Navigation worked fine too. What scared me is that what ever was happening was making my engine feel gutless on amd off. After hooking factory harness back up stock and clearing codes everything is fine and works and runs like new.

Anyone gotten this? The green wire flips vertically, I must have something switched behind the radio?
