If you can solder, the leds are easy to swap colors.

So i just got the full kit and am waiting on aob rocker switch to do the install, but my question is, can the front camera be replaced with any rca source, such that i could use it to watch tv, movies, etc? That would take care of video, but how bout sound?

Yes you can but the signal is analog, so you’d need a converter between your iPhone to the RCA plug. Also I’m not sure what the ratio is if it’s 16:9 or not. But yes you could and like danwray said aux input for sound

So in that case, would it be a good idea to put a rca selector switch before the front camera to have options? Giving me a bunch of ideas

You definitely could. That’s what the relay does, it hijacks the rear camera feed to insert the front camera feed. So effectively you could switch out the front camera feed to insert whatever video you want. Where’s RadioShack when you need one! #ripradioshack

I've started installing this and to be honest I've gotten lost. Can someone help me clarify the wiring?

I'm installing the front camera only.

Camera is installed, and will get power from an add a fuse directly into the fuse box.

I'm just totally lost about the red and black wire coming from the relay. I think black gets grounded to the vehicle, and red goes to the switch?

Does the switch get wired to anything else?

    I'd really appreciate any insight.

The red goes to the switch... as does the harness, but you didn't get the harness? The power comes from the black on the harness.

As i understand, you have to have the harness as it overrides the system and makes the rear view camera available anytime. Then the relay you have switches that to access the front.

What's the point of having a front camera while in reverse? You need the override harness.

Sorry, I don't think I was clear enough.

I have the 28 pin harness that adds two RCA jacks, the relay with 3 rca plus a black and red wire, plus a push switch from Ch4x4.

Just struggling to figure out what hooks up to the red wire from the relay and if anything hooks up with the 4 wires from the switch.

I posted this in the thread somewhere, see if this helps. I have a dual rocker switch. I also added this photo to the first install post 1F82F584-22D6-45C8-A499-4CBFB8FA292D.jpg

    To piggy back on this...

Black wire from relay gets grounded.

    AND

So that the front camera is not ON ALL THE TIME, you can tie the red power of the camera to the red wire from the relay so that it only comes on when you activate the front camera. The black wire from the camera goes to ground.

To clear up some confusion... the BLACK wire form the harness is a 12Volt source wire - even thought it is black!!! What the switch is basically doing is putting that 12Volt source onto the RED wire form the harness to activate/simulate the truck being in Reverse. It does this weather the switch is on front or rear camera. The other side of the switch is turning on the relay to switch from the rear camera to the front - and if you tie the power wire of the front camera to this wire it will turn the front camera on.

DO NOT INTRODUCE A NEW 12Volt source to any of the wiring - it is NOT NEEDED! (and you may foul something up by doing so)

    I was confused a little a t first too...hope this helps.

The 28 pin harness I have doesn't have any wires other than two rca jacks.

Ill attach pics of everything I'm working with and hopefully that will help. I'm installing just a front camera, no over ride for the rear.

I honestly appreciate all the help given so far!

Looks to me like your missing the override harness... o_O (cable to the right)

What you have will work to switch camera views but ONLY in reverse...

That... Makes a lot of sense. I'm glad I'm not crazy!

I'll order that additional harness and hopefully things will make sense once that arrives!

I have mine wired without the diodes on a dpdt switch. He doesn't mention for the dpdt, only the dual spst switches.

I actually have an email that i just sent him. (Thought i did already, but left as a draft) and he responds quickly. Will know definitively soon.

Mine is working perfectly without diodes.
